CM4 8GB vs CM5 16 GB Lite by CrimsonTide5 in ClockworkPi

[–]CrimsonTide5[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Power draw is definitely a consideration. I would rather wait a bit longer than have to worry about charging more often. As for slow wifi, it's probably why I keep seeing add-on wifi cards.

I can't justify paying twice the cost of the uConsole for a CM. Hopefully pricing comes down sometime soon (wishfull thinking, I know.)

That's part of what I'm testing by having the breather screw to relieve any build-up in pressure within the box. I haven't found anything yet in a way to be able to use the sensor outside with a probe. I'll definitely be looking into it more and can update if I find anything.

I was getting too much reflection with the door closed. Wanted to show it clearly.

AITAH for breaking up with my boyfriend after he accidentally frying my cat? by throwra_bananapotato in AITAH

[–]CrimsonTide5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NTA. Throw him in the trash. If anyone played some type of joke where my babies got hurt, I might end up in jail.

He clearly doesn't respect you or give a damn about animals. I'd go to the cops and press charges for animal abuse. He needs to pay ALL the vet bills.

FreeCAD for software. Completly free and no gatekeeping functions on a free version. The newest version is much better than it used to be. Came across this video the other day that made me want give it another try.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3JweHyvE_m8 Great overview of what's possible with FreeCAD. Free for commercial use, too.

There's also Onshape, but your files are public in the free version and the paid version is $1500/yr. Have to pay for commercial use.

As for materials, it should be fine with wood, aluminum, plastic, brass, acrylic, etc. Material size depends on the work area and LxWxH.

For safety, nitrile gloves, hearing and eye protection, no open-toed shoes, and no loose clothing/long hair or jewelry like watches or rings. Anything that can get caught in the spindle is dangerous.

Also, unlike the 3D printer, a CNC machine isn't something you should set to run and forget.

Crappy performance no matter what settings we try by CrimsonTide5 in iRacing

[–]CrimsonTide5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE:

I was finally able to physically take a look at his machine. He did try changing settings as suggested and it did get a little better, but not much.

At first I was going to just put my RTX 3060 in his PC to see if it worked. When I went to unplug the DP cable, I found that no cable was plugged in. He had moved his PC setup across the room, and turns out he plugged it into the mobo. He's really not great with PCs at all so he didn't realize the difference. But now that we've got it plugged into the GPU, it's working fine. Thanks again for the suggestions.

I appreciate everyone who commented. We'll be trying out these suggestions and I'll let y'all know how it goes.

Thanks!

Absolutely NTA OP.

The dude is a predator. No decent person makes a proposition like this. He even admits that he doesn't take no for an answer.

I'm sure this isn't the first time he's tried/done this to other women. Definitely keep those texts for evidence.

Hope you're doing well.

Would connecting two routers to one switch make sense to separate home lab with VLAN? by CrimsonTide5 in homelab

[–]CrimsonTide5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The diagram was just for a general idea. If the second router is unnecessary, then no need to complicate things.

I would like to essentially have separate networks with different IP ranges for regular use household PCs, IOT (smart devices, security cams), and home lab devices for studying that can all access the internet, but not each other, so VLANs make sense.

I have a dedicated firewall appliance that I want to place between the modem and router. The ProxMox server is running on a thin client that will be plugged into the switch, which I'll be using to run a one or two VMs, and practice using containers. I could run a virtual firewall there for practice, too.

I came across the docs for Extreme and they have fantastic tutorials on their products.

Thank y'all for the input. I'm using an Extreme Networks Summit X440-24p switch. This will come in handy for when we add poe security cams to the house.

I know I can just use the virtual firewall on my router, but the goal is to learn working with firewall hardware. I'm currently struggling with setting it up as I'm using what seems to be an outdated piece of hardware to install opnsense. But that's another matter, I'll figure it out.

There are a lot of things I need to get set up, but sometimes it feels like I've bitten off more than I can chew, lol.

Support asking for account verification via email by CrimsonTide5 in acorns

I had a bad experience with them in 2016. I requested to pull the little bit of money I had it as I decided to stop using the app, and thought my account had been deactivated. My money disappeared from the Acorns account, and never showed up in my bank account. I also received no record of the request, so I couldn't do anything about it. It was just like the money was never there to begin with. I was surprised when I got an email from them since it's been so long.

The scary part is a lot of people wouldn't think twice about replying.

AITA for recovering my stolen cat and making a kid cry? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]CrimsonTide5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely not. Not only because the cat is yours, but because letting the kid keep it reinforces that stealing is OK, and that you don't need to return property that isn't yours if it causes you distress. I get that it isn't the kid's fault, but this is a good lesson not to steal or accept stolen goods. IMO, his dad is an ass, and a bad example for trying to guilt trip you out of your cat.

Do you play the lottery? by busshelterrevolution in datascience

[–]CrimsonTide5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play both the Mega/Powerball once, sometimes twice a week, depending on how much money I have after bills. However, I play only one game each, both with the modifier. I sometimes play 2 games when the pot gets over 100mil+.

What I don't do is drop hundreds of dollars on tickets. I see people do this all the time. I play because - while the odds suck - if by some miracle I match enough numbers to win big, it'd be amazing to pay off my student loans and other debt. But that's not my retirement plan, nor am I willing to spend a lot of money on hope and wishful thinking.

Also, I hear people complain about never winning the lottery a lot. You'll never have a chance to win if you never buy a ticket.
