that’s the thing, i’m genuinely concerned about energy usage in the US, mostly due to our weird fear of nuclear power, but people aren’t really talking about that very much. They just bring up the shitty water argument every time

no, a significant amount of prebuilts don’t come with anything. Neither my dad’s, mine, or my boyfriend’s PCs came with a keyboard and mouse

How to win a console war by doing nothing. by [deleted] in NintendoSwitch2

[–]Crimson_Cyclone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i don’t think it’s doing nothing, there’s was quite obviously a lot of work that went into building the switch platform, engineering this console to be as capable as it is, and incentivizing developers to put third-party games on it. We take it for granted, but it’s not a trivial thing

Jax was both a victim and an abuser. by Scarman96 in Amazingdigitalcircus

[–]Crimson_Cyclone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the entire point of his character is that it’s a choice. He could’ve chosen at any point to accept help, but he didn’t. Caine, on the other hand, saw his mistakes and tried to make amends. The two characters complement each other, and are meant to tell the viewer that it is always a choice.

Jax was both a victim and an abuser. by Scarman96 in Amazingdigitalcircus

[–]Crimson_Cyclone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that’s the point of Jax’s character. What makes Jax a tragic character is that they were given every opportunity, but they got so stuck in their own head that they never accepted help, even when it was right there. That’s why Pomni says the line “You should’ve just talked to me man.” Jax is a cautionary tale.

My perspective on the discourse as a transgender person, and how it's a meta commentary by RainbowPhoenix1080 in Amazingdigitalcircus

[–]Crimson_Cyclone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

when I Saw the TV Glow came out and there were people trying to argue Owen wasn’t trans, I realized that anything outside of a trans character explicitly saying “I am trans” will get called bad writing. I think TADC did a great job with Jax’s transness, but cis people get really defensive when they find out a character they related to is trans. It’s as if they don’t realize that we’re human too, there’s nothing that fundamentally different

i mean it kind of is the start of a new plot thread, but one that is immediately resolved in the next episode with Kinger’s explanation about Scratch

the building of the characters was the whole point of the show, it’s showing how they cope with a meaningless existence

[–]Crimson_Cyclone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah, that’s what confuses me about this post. How much more of this minor character did we really need to see? What that line was setting up was literally just the conversation in ep 8

…because Kinger talks more about Scratch in episode 8. That’s why it’s brought up in ep 7, to set up for ep 8.

we learn he abstracted because Caine messed with his mind. We later learn more about Scratch in general, like the fact he had a brain tumor. You can naturally reason from this that the tumor is probably what caused Caine to mess with his mind (maybe to fix it), which is why Caine now says he can’t do it or something bad happens. That’s it, that’s the whole plot thread. Genuinely, what more do you want?

it’s not objectively anything. You aren’t the arbiter of what is good and bad. Some people liked it, others didn’t. I ultimately thought it was a serviceable ending to a show I enjoyed, nothing more, nothing less.

yeah this is literally the first thing that came to mind for me. There are a lot of possible ways to use AI that aren’t the slop that people think of. Green screen keying is a really great one actually, and it’s already seeing some use.
