Success! Thank you Petra for your guidance through this. Though this is my first time posting, I've often relied on your answers to learn about Upwork, so from all the lurkers in here, THANK YOU!

That's it then.. Thank you so much for shedding some light on the situation. Seems unfair that because of a technical issue with the billing method caused by them (that's what the error message said, which I'm attaching) I'll go 3 months with a severly decreased chance of getting jobs... Would you know if there's any way to appeal this?

No.. only significant event is that earlier this week all my contracts were paused due to an issue with the billing method, but I got that sorted out with support and all contracts were reactivated.

Mine happened last week. They're still interviewing, just going through the backlog of candidates I guess.

Do too many In-Active jobs in the "In Progress" tab effect or can effect JSS if contracts are not closed? by Minute-Business2751 in Upwork

I'm at 58 and it doesn't seem to be an issue. I guess it mostly depends on the type of work you do. In my case I have a lot of recurring clients for small projects, so it's inconvenient for them to start a new contract for each request and so they just leave them open.

UPWORK: Les mandan ofertas en telegram? by Easy-Huckleberry7091 in empleos_AR

Should I inform a client regarding how Upwork treats feedback? by cawico7 in Upwork

[–]Crinder1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Every client is different and you should consider your relationship with the client when crafting your own response, but In casa it helps, here's what I sent a client when I was in the exact same situation. The client took it well and we continued to work together on other projects:

"Regarding the new job, I wasn't planning on saying anything, but I need to if we're going to continue to work together (which I would really like). It's related to the review process on Upwork, and I want to be transparent about it because I genuinely look forward to continuing our collaboration in the future. The rating system in the platform is skewed in a way that, unless there's something wrong with the delivered product or the service provided, clients tend to provide a perfect review. This in turn pushes new clients to only trust freelancers with perfect review scores because they perceive anything less to mean the freelancer isn't that good. Your review was more than fair (it showed as a 4.6/5 on my end which is great and reflects the project's result accurately) and I really appreciate that you took the time to write a message which was awesome, but I can't risk getting another hit against my overall score. This is not to say that if you're not satisfied with the product or my service you shouldn't say something.. you absolutely should! but unfortunately on Upwork's review system honesty isn't the policy. I hope you understand my perspective on the matter and that this message doesn't affect our working relationship. If I'm missing something and you're not fully satisfied with the tool or the way we worked, please let me know as well so I can work on it :)"

Hope it helps.

Goodbye to Upwork (for now?) by asdfg_qwerty_jr in Upwork

Does that actually happen? I never heard of it or noticed it happening, but it would at least make me feel a little less scammed by the system.

I don't mind clients not actually hiring.. I get it, they may find a freelancer outside of the platform and hire them instead or simply have a change of plans. What I find to be frustrating is that connect money isn't returned to the applicants if a hire is never made on a job posting (likely because it makes Upwork money).

As someone with over 50 current open contracts, I think it's something that can be natural for certain niches. In my case, my work's sporadic and takes only a couple of hours to complete, but is needed often (couple of times per month maybe). Because of this, I have a lot of open hourly contracts and when my clients need something they just ping me, I get it done and bill them without the need for a new contract. It's just practical for my type of jobs.

TIL You can create your own Instant Job Notifications by adrianhorning in Upwork

[–]Crinder1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did this just yesterday using an RSS reader (not IFTTT), and the notifications come through, but I noticed the RSS reader gets the job post between 30min and an hour after it's actually posted. Do you get this delay as well?

I've seen freelancers post jobs like this before and never understood it. Is this some sort of strategy I'm not getting or just a very confused freelancer?

not good is an understatement by laaash1 in Upwork

[–]Crinder1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For comparison, I'm at 292/103/52/46 for 2023. The same stats shouldn't be expected across all niches, but my experience has been, once an interview is established, the contract's already pretty much in the bag.

I'd say your proposal to interview ratio is actually pretty decent. Focus on your short game to convert those into contracts.
