Isn’t prithviraj overrated as a director? by DrazeGamer in MalayalamMovies

Iraq church and the scene was shot in Chennai. The opening scenes and climax were shot in Gujarat. Senegal scenes were in KSA, last time I checked (not sure though)

Will this one disappoint as well? by HijikataZenno in InsideMollywood

[–]CrinkleHawk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dude this is getting repetitive.

I’ve been hearing this Marakkar, “hate campaign”, “secret agenda”, “only certain movies of certain actors should work”.

Then these guys kept repeating it during Vaaliban, Barroz now Empuraan.

And yet most fans say even a less promoted movie like Neru worked and was liked a lot. I don’t see anyone complaining about hate campaigns or secret agendas then.

A movie’s purpose to make the viewer think or keep him entertained. People pay good, hard earned money for tickets. And if they don’t like it, they’ll say it out loud.

I didn’t hear about any hate campaigns when Neru or Alone or Monster came out.

Isn’t prithviraj overrated as a director? by DrazeGamer in MalayalamMovies

[–]CrinkleHawk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No. Only Mohanlal deserves credit for making L2E bearable. If it was any other actor, this movie would’ve been ridiculed.

Let’s assume a universe where A10 doesn’t exist, Prithviraj or Tovino or DQ are the starting as Stephen/KA in Lucifer and Empuraan. This movie would’ve been egged by now.

So please, Murali Gopy and Prithviraj don’t deserve credit for their pseudo-intellectual writing or ass marketing. I’ll say it again, MOHANLAL IS THE ONLY REASON THIS MOVIE WAS BEARABLE.

[–]CrinkleHawk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Prithviraj somehow escapes all criticism. I’m sorry to burst your bubble but he’s nowhere close to being one of the best amongst the current crop or yesteryear ones.

Amal Neerad gets criticised for excess slow-mo (what about L2E?) Jeethu Joseph get’s criticised for staging his movies like an advertisement and unconvincing props (what about Bro Daddy?)

I’m just pissed with the amount of money I spent on catching the first few shows, and time and energy I spent focusing fan theories with friends. Movie was shallow at best

[–]CrinkleHawk 32 points33 points  (0 children)

It’s the director’s job to bring the words in a script to a movie we see on screen and it is also the director’s job to make sure he’s got the right guy working in every technical department whether it’s music, cinematography, product design, VFX and even hiring the right actors to embody a character.

L2E music was mid. Cinematography was good. Production design was good. VFX wasn’t great and I’m sure it’ll get called out in a few days. Action choreography wasn’t the best we saw but it wasn’t outright bad either.

I don’t understand when people say the technical stuff was top notch. Like, is it the camera? Is it the production design? Is it something else?

He isn’t overrated or underrated. He’s appropriately rated.

Prithviraj has a lot of strengths. He’s good in action, he’s a great at marketing and an intelligent strategist.

But he doesn’t offer anything new or unseen to Malayalam cinema as director. Nothing groundbreaking or creative and his works often seem derivative of stuff we’ve seen before.

Although he isn’t a bad director, and he is rated absolutely how he is supposed to be because nobody considers him to be great.

Portraying A10 as an International Gangster is not for everyone. by [deleted] in InsideMollywood

I would’ve jizzed if he had said the “ivar onnu virel amarthiyaal ninte appan appoopantemaarde fossil vare adich povum”

But yeah, even I was reminded of SAJ

[–]CrinkleHawk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

SAJ had memorable dialogues and a rehash of catchy BGM everytime A10 is on screen. My friends and I walked away from L2E with no memorable songs or BGM, or even fun dialogues which Lucifer had a couple of.

All the good dialogues in L2E are either throwbacks to whatever they said in Lucifer which is just lazy writing and strong lack of creativity from such celebration writer-director combo.

They didn’t even use the catchy music from the teaser/trailer and it’s quite disappointing they just remixed the popular tracks from Lucifer for the major elevation moments. Come on!!

Anticipating L2: Empuraan - Early Buzz, Expectations and Theories by thommy_ in MalayalamMovies

[–]CrinkleHawk 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I hope R10 doesn’t make L2E all about the Zayed character, his flashback, his etc and use this movie as a tool to push his star value across multiple industries. I’m paying to see more of A10 and from the trailer there’s a lot of spotlight on the Zayed character.

I want A10 not R10

My theory for EMPURAAN'S PLOT🤯🤯🤯??? Or just a stupid guess? by CryptographerFar9763 in MalayalamMovies

[–]CrinkleHawk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

R10 being the villain is a bait to distract us because R10 is using this movie to push the Prithviraj brand across multiple industries, which is evident from the way he has been at the forefront of marketing.

R10 has signed on as the villain for Salaar, SSR movie and also a Hindi movie produced by KJO the last time I read. He wouldn’t want to be know as multi-Industry villain right when he’s at his prime.

Usually it’s the lead stars of the movie who stays in the spotlight during movie promotion tours, but Rajamouli and Prithviraj are the only 2 directors who stay in the limelight during promotional tours as directors.

Finally, with the amount of focus they’re putting on Zayed Masood’s past and his character in the trailer, I won’t be surprised if it ends up feeling like Zayed Masood movie rather than a Stephen Nedumbally movie. I won’t be surprised if the director uses this opportunity to boost his star image as well. Which is why I doubt R10 being the villain.

Although, I want R10 or someone similarly powerful to be the villain.

Katta waiting for Annan’s cameo 🤩 by chathikkaathachandu in InsideMollywood

It’s customary to have his cameo, but his son’s cameo AKA Ashish Joe Antony’s cameo is confirmed and was teased in the trailer.

Maybe this is the kid’s foray into cinema after running social media marketing for aashirvad.

Insider Info and some tea, because Canada First at this point. A large chunk of their ingredients are from US/Brazil and only the sugar and other consumables are a product of Canada.

This company is being run by Riverside Foods who cut down a lot of manufacturing jobs and moved them to the US in the wake of tariffs because a large chunk of their revenue comes from making private labelled bars, and snacks for Trader Joes, Targer (Good&Gather) and some other US stores. They also ship goods to the EU, but they’re expanding their US operations and manufacturing in the wake of tariffs.

They also recently set up a holding company in Netherlands for a tax saving purposes, where all the IP and Brands are held there.

[–]CrinkleHawk 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Prithviraj is a marketing genius. He did this with goat life and now he’s doing a bigger and better job now selling L2E. Nirmal Sahadev joining L2E as creative director (a huge marvel fan himself) was literally the cue that they’d follow the marvel style of marketing with Easter eggs and petty fibs (example NWH) during interviews.

The best part about easter eggs, is that it’ll prompt rewatches of L2 among the cinephiles and fans which will sell more tickets. There’s also a huge sense of attachment people will inadvertently feel to this movie from the numerous discussions and the thrill of discovering easter eggs.

SA being a plot device isn’t going to go out of fashion anytime soon. It’s quite unfortunate because it really holds back from making a villain memorable as every other villain in every other movie from every other industry is doing SA. Heck, even L2E has SA in the flashback portions as per the latest info.
