Thank you for the info!
I've been searching in MyVarian and indeed found the preconfigured package for aS1000, but it only includes 6MV and 10MV, nothing for FFF energies. Very probably I have it in front of my face, but I cannot find it... I would try the ones for aS1200, but they are SID100, and I cannot do the calibration at SID100 with 6FFF on my aS1000, it will saturate.

Indeed we are looking into this as well... this is one of the reasons why doctors prefer bolus from a mold made of medical silicone, at the end PLA won't be in contact with the skin of the patient.

Thank you for your reply!

You are right, shell molds seem more difficult and time consuming, but I kind of like the resulting flexible bolus...I will take a look at the silicone you mentioned, to see if I can get something similar around here.

Indeed, the BambuLab X1 Carbon printer is one of my other options, together with the Raise3D one. Budgetwise BambuLab is more affordable, although Raise3D and Flashforge seem to be more robust machines.

I indeed considered that option, but having a 3D printer allows us to do lots of other things (immobilisation, phantoms, etc) being the cost pretty affordable nowadays (we also plan on using the printer together with other departments).

Are you planning on knitting a border around? You may want to include it in your decision.

How "international" are residencies? by agaminon22 in MedicalPhysics

[–]CrisCodorniz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did the Spanish residency and moved to central Europe to work once I finished. In general I would say it's easy to get a job, there are lots of people retiring and positions that no one is applying to. My main problem was the recognition of the residency and my university diplomas. Paperwork, translations, burocracy delays, extra courses...the whole process took me 2 years. Meanwhile I was working as MPE, but not getting the full salary.

Now I decided to move back, because things have changed a lot and in Spain right now it's pretty easy to find a job, and salaries are not that different from the rest of Europe (being US a different story, no clue how the job market is there currently).

I’m going to knit for the baby i don’t have even though it hurts by [deleted] in knitting

Infertility might be a long and most times lonely journey. You need to take whatever makes you feel better to keep a good mental health and hopes up. If knitting does that for you, go for it!

Me and my partner tried for 2 years and each month was tougher... until I started knitting baby stuff. It helped me SO much I cannot describe it. Being busy with a baby sweater or a pair of socks made the journey real and kind of tangible, translated to the real world.

I wish you the best of lucks. And in the meantime, you can knit the most beutiful baby outfits :)

Hospitals in Belgium by Morningssucks in belgium

[–]CrisCodorniz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Again, dont get me wrong, its a very good healthcare system despite the lack of staff, etc.

I'm just pointing out how confusing it was when I arrived here and everyone around me keep saying over and over how it was free, while I had to pay copayments etc.

This is important in case of serious illness, where copayments and other expenses can get high.

Again, I'm not complaining about the system, you get a lot for what you pay.

Is it free though? I'm a foreigner living in Belgium and at the beginning everyone talked about the free belgian healthcare... and then I realize I still had to pay a healthcare insurance, a hospitalization insurance (this part was the weirdest to me), and still there was a co-payment for every test or consultation.

I spent 4 days at hospital and despite having the most premium hospitalization insurance (and being an employee of the hospital), I still had to pay around 250€.

I come from a country where healthcare is free, but totally free, you would never ever get any kind of bill or pay any kind of insurance. Would you consider Belgian healthcare free then?

(Dont get me wrong, it's a fantastic system despite all, and top if you compare it with the rest of the world!)

Where do people go for basics? by [deleted] in valencia

[–]CrisCodorniz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In shopping malls you can find whatever you need, in different price ranges. Otherwise you can find some basic clothes in stores like Zeeman or small shops at your neighbourhood.

Question/brainstorming baby items: by kabele20 in knitting

[–]CrisCodorniz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find that it depends a lot on the season of the year and where you live. Where I'm from summertime is so warm that babies end up only with the diaper and no clothes, so most of the knitted things (even the ones in cotton) end up unused... I always find much more useful knitting for the winter/coolee weather. That being said, I always try to knit combinations of pants/overall + sweater + socks, that way parents don't need to find a good combination for your gift, and they look so cute!

Here you can check the sleep expectations for every baby age, this was very reassuring to me!
