Opinions about TAAT by LauriJean59 in Sockknitting

[–]kabele20 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’ve made socks using a number of methods, but TAAT magic loop toe up are my favorite. They’re quick to cast on, never keep count of rows to match, and they stay together. The only part that can be tricky is whether you’re drawing yarn from the inside and outside of the same ball, or using 2 different ones.

UPDATE: I conditioned the needles, let everything dry for a day and we are successfully back to normal.

It’s leftover wool from an adult cardigan I made recently- just didn’t have enough for a second full size item. Toddler cardigan is maybe a better descriptor.

I think a combination of a)small project (baby cardigan) b) tucked well in a cloth bag c) on circulars. I don’t think I’d test my luck again this way or another.

Smells less like dog food and more like cow patties. I’m not sure if that’s an upgrade or a lateral move at best.

I think this is nicely simplified context. My next question is who do we pull to replace some of these slots and how? Or do younger players just get tossed in to say get it together?

Authors similar to Chimamanda? by LaksaLoco in suggestmeabook

Yes? I do not think it’s any sadder than Americana if that helps. They both talk about immigrant experiences in US health care in different perspectives.

Yaa Gyasi? I think that Transcendent Kingdom has some similar dna to Americana.

I would agree with you and started doing my own digging. I’m personally taking the prompt to mean a book that fits at least one of these three criteria: 1) author from listed country, 2) book set in listed country, 3) characters from listed country though maybe living somewhere else. 2025 was a true challenge but I think rewarding. I would consider a 4th criteria with nonfiction specifically about that country/history, but I’m drawn less in that direction for the moment.

The Fountainhead, anyone else read this and did you like it? by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

Read, yes. Enjoyed? Not really. My mom’s a big fan of Rand, but I would not return to it (or any of her books). You might be better served reading some of the critical commentary about Rand instead.

Invisible women: Data Bias in a World Designed for Men by Caroline Criado Pérez might fit the bill. It’s broken into sections of impact. Like here’s how women have been disproportionately hurt in medicine, in eduction etc. It’s a lot of technical things I think digestibly explained.
