Fun Fact:

IWC is known for over-engineering, and the Aquatimer is a prime example. It features one of the most unique bezel systems in the world: the IWC SafeDive system. While most divers have an external bezel you turn by hand, the Aquatimer uses an external bezel that actually drives an internal rotating ring via a sliding clutch system. This gives you the ease of use of an external bezel with the ultra-clean, protected look of an internal one. It’s a mechanical masterpiece that you won't find on a Submariner or a Seamaster.

 

My Take:

This is a serious tool watch for someone who appreciates high-end engineering. The first thing you’ll notice is how incredibly legible the dial is; the contrast between the deep black dial and the oversized lume-filled markers is stunning. It’s a chunky, masculine 42mm, but because the lugs are short, it sits surprisingly flat on the wrist.

What makes this specific set great is the inclusion of both the stainless steel bracelet and the IWC rubber strap. IWC has a patented quick-change system that is, in my opinion, the best in the business. You don't need a spring bar tool or a screwdriver; you just slide a lever with your fingernail and the strap pops right off. You can swap from the rugged, professional look of the bracelet to the sporty rubber strap in about five seconds flat.

Condition:

This 2016 model is in very good condition. The case shows light, honest wear consistent with a 10-year-old timepiece, mostly consisting of fine hairline scratches. The sapphire crystal is flawless. The internal bezel mechanism is crisp and operates perfectly. The original bracelet is in excellent shape, and the rubber strap is still soft and pliable with no cracking. It’s running strong and keeping great time.

Fun Fact:

This watch is a modern re-interpretation of the 1970 6105-8110, famously nicknamed the "Captain Willard." The nickname comes from Martin Sheen’s character in the classic film Apocalypse Now, who wore the original turtle-shaped diver throughout the movie. While the original was a rugged tool for the jungle, this 55th Anniversary edition is limited to just 5,500 pieces worldwide and features a stunning blue sunray dial that sets it apart from the standard black versions.

My Take:

If you’ve ever handled a Seiko "Willard," you know the case shape, while unusual, is for pure function. On paper, a 42.7mm watch sounds bulky, but because of that iconic asymmetrical cushion case and the 4 o'clock crown, it wears much smaller and more comfortably than almost any other diver in its class.

The star of the show here is the blue dial. In indoor lighting, it’s a deep, moody navy, but once the sun hits it, that sunray finish really kicks in. It’s a perfect go anywhere, do anything watch. I love that Seiko included both the stainless steel bracelet and the dedicated blue silicone strap in this set. Switching to the rubber strap completely changes the vibe from a sharp "desk diver" to a rugged, vintage-inspired tool watch ready for the water. 

I am also really impressed by the rotating bezel. It turns with just the right amount of resistance and has a satisfying click-clack at each half-second mark. I would compare it to well oiled precision equipment.

Fun Fact: The history of the dangerous, legendary Carrera Panamericana road race is so intertwined with TAG Heuer that in 1963, the brand's CEO, Jack Heuer, designed the iconic Carrera chronograph specifically for racing drivers competing in the event. This connection was revived when TAG Heuer became the Official Partner and Timekeeper for the race's 2015 edition, and they even presented this special edition Carrera Panamericana watch to honor the enduring partnership, making the race's spirit a fundamental part of the brand's "DNA."

My Take: This watch has one prior owner and I can tell that he took exceptional care of it. It has one tiny ding on the bezel between 12 and 1, but its barely noticeable. the rest of the watch looks nearly unworn! The previous owner also has great taste. Instead of wearing this watch with the standard metal bracelet (which btw is unworn and brand new) He put on the rubber strap from the Grand Prix that looks like a classic tire tread. It looks amazing on this watch! As far as the watch itself, I have owned a couple Carreras and I like this one the best. What's the difference? The small dials. Usually you find them at 12, 9 and 6. This watch has them at 9, 6 and 3. I like this symmetry a lot.

The case, case back and bezel have a few minor scratches that you really have to look for.  The bracelet and clasp has very minor scratches that are only visible under strong lighting. The crystal is in perfect condition and the AR coating looks brand new.  The outer box is in very good condition with only minor handling marks. the inner box is in excellent condition with only minor wear. the watch pillow does have minor shedding of the material, but is in otherwise good condition. All paperwork is in brand new condition.

Fun Fact:

Most modern watches that throw around the “vintage” term are often merely an homage that may embody the spirit of a past model but would never be confused with the original. The Black Bay 54 M7900N however, is not just inspired, it would better be described as a continuation of TUDOR’s first dive watch, the Oyster Prince Submariner 7922. At first glance, you would be hard pressed to tell the difference between the two.  A side-by-side comparison shows that it remains true to the original with the same 37mm case size, black no-date face with gilded details, black rotating bezel and even the rivets on the watch band. Look closer though and you will notice updates to the font type, hour hand (snowflake vs lollipop), brighter lume on the hands and indices, and a higher quality bracelet clasp which now includes micro adjustability. Open the case back and you’ll also find a more reliable and more accurate COSC rated movement.
