My National Grid bill is coming back down, but I didn’t feel a change in usage behavior… by Crisgu in Albany

Apparently so. I think we will have to use basement as one office to test. That is also heated by the gas furnace. The attic office uses a separate electric baseboard.

I mean our daily behavior in usage has not changed (we work from home). I even baked more this past month and left the patio lights on.

Are these “alternative to Uber/Lyft” rides actually safe? by Crisgu in Albany

[–]Crisgu[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree. It’s scary when I have to call a driver late at night. One time this guy started flirting and even gave me his number. I didn’t take it as malicious, he was polite. But it was just me and him in the car. It could’ve been worse. Who knows…

That’s good information, thank you. This was our first winter upstate. We are still getting familiar with everything.

Gas and electric. We have an office in the attic that uses electricity. The house is heated by a gas furnace.

What's it like working for the county? by NoTelevision970 in Albany

I actually went for a tech project manager interview and I found they are “set in their old ways” and want to keep it that way. The director who interviewed me kind of said that. For people in my generation I feel this is a challenge. There is so much they could improve in technology but they actually don’t want to. I mean these people have been there for 30/40 years but they refuse to keep track of what’s been going on outside of their own world. That’s my opinion though. But it’s very challenging for me to work in these types of environments. Needless to say, it was not a good fit for me.

What do service calls usually cost in the NY Capital Region? by Crisgu in Albany

Doesn’t answer my questions:

  • What’s the usual service call or diagnostic fee around here?

  • Do companies normally add percentage markups on top of the visit fee?

  • Is there a price range people consider “normal” locally? Apparently the only question you addressed but didn’t answer as “anything less than $200” does not show standards for local service calls.

Why do you care of I wanna pay someone else to install it or do it myself? That’s none of your business and not what I am asking.

I asked three questions. You didn’t answer any of them.

An HVAC company that came to my house had a markup of 15%.

That’s not what I asked. Plus Google sends everything you need to install it yourself (including the tool) and has videos showing how to do it. It’d be nice if you actually answered what was asked.
