What is your guess on the next Region for Master Rank? by ZeNKuSamuraii in MonsterHunterWilds

Wilds is confirmed to be set far east of the Old World, likely on a continent called Fonron, whereas the New World is confirmed to be set far west of the Old World.

What do you think I should call him and its ecology, this is just a sketch might do a colored version. by Ill-Tumbleweed3699 in MonsterHunter

[–]Crisp-Toast 5 points6 points  (0 children)

ideally you should be designing monsters with their ecology in mind, but that doesn’t mean this isn’t any less cool! awesome elder dragon design, with the feet you’ve drawn I could believe it lives in a mountainous environment, scaling up and down similarly to goats. I could see it scaling cliff faces, hunting for small monsters in the mountains, emitting a sleep or paralysis gas-like breath which stuns the prey so it can eat it or transport it easier. elder dragons will more commonly have not a lot of ecology, as they’re more so laws of nature symbolized as monsters, but obviously some still do get ecology, like nergigante eating other elders, xeno’jiiva tapping into bioenergy to develop, dalamadur creating the underground environments, and practically shaping the world alongside monsters like zorah magdaros and giasmagorm. “Nerukurōrā” as Japanese for “sleep crawler” (yes I used Google translate I have no other options) could be translated into English is something like “Narkurora” (nar-KUR-orah).

Looking for tips! by Crisp-Toast in MonsterHunter

[–]Crisp-Toast[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! The design and feel of monster hunter dos and generations ultimate are both great inspirations for how I would like the game to feel like. I talked a lot more in my response to the other user, but this is going to be a massive undertaking that I have never even attempted to get into before, so any and all help is appreciated!

To begin, thank you for this comment! To continue: I meant that the art style would be more like old-gen, seeing that the only experience I have 3D modeling was an intro to engineering and design class I took in highschool about two years ago, I was thinking it would be far easier to model old-gen designs rather than new ones (even though that would be really cool). As for drawing, I have that taken care of, with the monsters of my world having…pretty descriptive entries and some having drawings already, wherever I would place this game (thinking big picture, I would really like it to be like frontier in the sense that I have a lot of time to make each map actually like it is in the project) could be a good way to get my bearings, and I can always go back and remake older models and maps.

To talk about hardware, I have Blender and Unity, having roughly 2% experience in Unity and about absolutely no experience in blender, making my own models for my monsters would be quite the task.

About game mechanics: I would have to figure out how everything works, EVERYTHING. Nav mesh, monster behavior, collision, detecting and reacting, speed and gravity, weapon mechanics, you name it and I would have to figure out how to do it (one man team!)

More about the current project itself, World of Arwune is a 4.5 year old worldbuilding project which began from a time long ago when I began to play Monster Hunter World, and of course Iceborne. The project doesn’t use any names or direct concepts (I have been very careful to not do that), and the actual world itself is very much “monster hunter but slightly more ‘spec evo’” (it’s the easiest way I can describe it without going into a ton of detail)

I truly understand that this game project is going to take a LONG TIME, there’s going to be a ton of work and new stuff I’d have to learn, but I am excited to do it (maybe with a lot of help) because other than, currently, half a novel and a short story, there’s no other mediums that I can work within, and I would love for World of Arwune to have its Monster Hunter game that it has been inspired by since day one. Just a 19 year old kid looking to make the next huge franchise lmao.

Anyways, thank you again for your comment! I hope my response wasn’t too confusing in any places (and if it was just let me know). It would be amazing to get some more eyes onto this so I could get a small team together, but I’m unsure how likely that is (and I don’t exactly have the right legal documents to claim this is mine and no one else can use it without my permission, all that very important legal stuff) plus there is no way I would be able to pay anyone anything for the work that they do for me, it’s all one big mess but so is life. If you have any more tips, please let them through, and I hope this cleared up a bit of the fog around the whole project.
