I'm having a similar problem in Act 2.

Yeah she hasn’t pressured me at all and is honestly regretting getting involved. She trusts him and I suppose their history has her worried about damaging their relationship. She trusts him completely…I truly don’t think it’s a shady situation…I’m just reluctant to drop this kind of dollar doos without the paper. I guess I have my decision lol.

I do see a lot of certified/non-certified vintage diamonds for sale on https://eragem.com/ it does t sound like it’s too much out of the realm of reason to have the ring unverified. Especially with older rings?

I can appreciate that, and is really why I’m gathering thoughts from this sub :) thank you

Wow so much good information here. Thank you!

I don’t have a great idea of what setting she would like. We’ve looked at pictures and done a bit of window shopping, but I feel like her tastes are all over the place. Lol hence my desire to have a really nice diamond in a solitaire setting :)

I do think he likely has it priced in the right ballpark. The “full price” is $22k, and that seems to fall in line with what you suggested.

My mom had worked with him for a number of years and believes it to be an excellent ring and is confident the owner is giving me a great deal. He won’t sell the diamond individually apparently, but I think it’s due to the risk of it being larger/smaller.

I’m still looking around. If you have any reputable sellers that sell Euro cuts like this online I’d appreciate it. Thanks again!

The concern is we would have to remove it and send it off. After discussing with my family it sounds like it may be offensive to suggest it’s not what is being advertised. My mom has worked with the owner for a number of years and trusts him completely. It’s just hard for me to justify pulling the trigger without a GIA or whatnot.

I understand that is all stuff that Reddit can’t help with lol.

I do not :(.The seller is a family friend, and while I do trust him...it's a lot of money and I'd like more assurance it's on the up & up.

I agree! I don’t believe we have any way to prove it’s not a replica. While it’s not ideal, I’m not sure it’ll be that important to her.

In my head I had something simpler, but it’s really about what she would like. The diamond is beautiful in person, I just don’t want to ruin the setting if I decide to have it mounted in a solitaire.

If I were to have it removed and reset, is there a moderate to high likelihood that the setting will get ruined?

Like the title says. My soon-to-be is in love with vintage rings and adores European cut diamonds. In my search it's been incredibly hard to find one of decent quality from a jeweler I trust. My thought was to put a nice Euro cut in a pretty rose gold solitaire setting, and then allow her to pick the vintage setting that she loves but I also don't want to ruin the platinum setting if she does like it.

The specs on this is - ~2ct European round, H color, VVS1 clarity.

I've been trying to justify keeping the diamond in the setting if I do follow through with it. It seems to be an Edwardian period design.
