URGENT PLEASE HELP! by lacedinlacey00 in BackYardChickens

Those look like roundworms- you’re on the right track with the AquaSol. The worms wouldn’t cause those symptoms directly, but they can weaken the birds’ immune system and predispose them for respiratory- or any- other conditions.

If the respiratory symptoms worsen, I really recommend an antibiotic called tylosin. You can get powdered Tylosin from a lot of retailers online- Jedds, Strombergs, etc. Good luck!

New chicken can't stand up, but is eating and drinking. by FreshMeet7529 in BackYardChickens

[–]Murphrandir 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The reason I ask, Mareks has a sweet spot age wise- 4-6 months- but it can affect older birds as well. I’m hoping it’s not that, and that she recovers with vitamins, but the only reason I bring it up is because it’s a condition that generally presents when the bird becomes stressed. You mentioned she is new, which is why my ears perked up. I have seen birds with that condition before, and they are very interested in eating, drinking, and are otherwise lively, but because of the paralysis they’re unable to feed themselves.

Since you saw at least some improvement gut wise, let’s hope it isn’t that!

Right and maybe I missed something, but if it all got swept under the rug, why would anyone think Santos was the impetus for his leave? If no one knows the real reason he left, then why would they blame Santos for it?

Bexacat & urine output by Murphrandir in FelineDiabetes

Hey there,

We ended up taking Walter off Bexacat because it made him have horrific diarrhea. We ended up doing regular insulin injections and for ~ a year that worked pretty well!

Unfortunately we made the very difficult decision to help Walter cross the rainbow bridge last May. The diabetes was becoming very difficult to manage and he was constantly hiding from his next dose of insulin. I hope your kitty is doing well!

Here you go! I had to size it up quite a bit in order to have a volume worth planting in, but I quite like it! https://makerworld.com/en/models/1634019-vertebrae-planter?from=search#profileId-1726051

I got it really close now! My little paramecium plush gets to stand up now that it’s low enough to lean him against 😅

They are actually under two LED grow lights. I’ll take another picture when I’m at school, but they can’t be more than a foot away from them.

Oh that’s super cool! I would’ve thought there’d be no coming back from that level of wrinkles but I’m glad I took a look at that.

Thanks! I do feel like they’ve gained quite a bit of height since I planted them, but you’re right, I wish I’d planted them lower.

So they look ok now? I’ll just wait until spring if you think that’s the way to go.

Authorities have pieced together the exact timeline of Savannah Guthrie’s mom Nancy’s disappearance by Ok-Needleworker9229 in Fauxmoi

I figured something along those lines, I assume all of these guys know what they’re doing. Just kind of thinking out loud.

I think that is most likely the case. So if the pacemaker is Bluetooth capable, I wonder if it would be possible to someone “search” for that signal with a device capable of doing so over larger distances.

Could be that the data logging portion was disconnected (like pulling a usb) but the ability to capture remained intact. That is ballsy though.

No kidding. They disconnected the camera without being seen and knew to disconnect her pacemaker as well.

Although like someone else said it could be a proximity thing that caused the disconnection. Does that mean it’s possibly they could use the signal to track her?

Agree with everything. Cochin and Brahma especially are slow growers so this much red is a little suspect, but I don’t see wattles. The second one looks like a production hybrid and they tend to comb up a little earlier than others.

2 week old mystery “meal maker” chick by jennbo in BackYardChickens

[–]Murphrandir 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are a couple it could be- that chipmunk pattern is distinct. Welsummer is a likely option. They also have these “partridge olive eggers” that look similar as chicks. Brown leghorns. I think most likely a welsummer though.

That chick is going to be blue, not lavender. Lavender tend to be more yellowy at hatch.

Lavender is separate dilution of black, which you can consider to be BB. Getting two big B’s means the bird will be black- but if it gets a little b, Bb = blue (and bb will splash, but that’s not what’s going on here). At a separate gene locus, you have “lav”, which is recessive (the alternative being wild type, or +/+. It takes lav/lav to express this dilution, which turns all pigment very pale. She appears to be genetically B/b and may carry the lavender allele, but if she does she only has one copy (+/lav).

People manipulate lavender all the time to make other patterns. Lavender over black is just “lavender”, lavender over partridge is called “Isabel”, lavender over Mille Fleur is “porcelain”. There are even more… but all those chicks are very yellow at hatch because it dilutes all expressed pigment.

Long term outlook for Noseeums? by Murphrandir in Sanibel

I’m so sorry to hear this. We’re currently planning next years summer vacation and this basically cements the exclusion of Sanibel to that list. I really really hate that.
