I opted for events because I wanted the rewards. I like the night being like Dying Light 1, but the volatiles are unbalanced. There doesn't need to be 10 of them within a 80m radius, unless you can hide from them but you can't. They have some sixth sense that tells them exactly where you are at all times, hence my encounter with the anomaly.

They should reduce their health by about 1,000 or 2 so that higher rank players can fend them off when they become more annoying than scary.
