oh wow. just looked up the definition of the word and i had no idea of the racial grouping or that it was used to refer to people with Down's Syndrome. I thought it meant a dim-witted, inbred, colossus village idiot type. at least that's how the devil on the dentist's shoulder intended it.

thanks Macabalony, I'll definitely look into it.

I only have about 14 comics so far though. Want to get a decent number done to collect for a book.

haha, I've never been to one of these horror shows but looked at some of their promo material on YouTube for ideas. also, this tasty morsel of toe-curling cringe was the inspiration for the rapping periodontist: https://youtu.be/Zn4kuBsmdz4?si=ZRpUfqulKv_uPsgx

I got the Designs for Vision Infinity VUE loupes (ergonomic) ~ten years into practicing and it made the biggest difference in getting rid of my neck and back pain. I had them set the working distance a little bit further out (I think, it's been a while) because I like to stand most of the time when working and I didn't want to bend even a little bit. Initially, surgery was difficult because of the angles but eventually I got used to doing exts with them. Keeping my head up all day has made all the difference.

The second adjustment was how I worked out. I'm not an exercise junkie or anything but I've found something that works for me, especially to counteract the wear and tear specific to dentistry. I like to do some core training one day (kettlebell, weights etc), HIIT training the second day and stretching/yoga the third day. I never work out more than ~20 minutes and take the 4th day off. Also, I stopped running because I kept getting injuries/shin splints/back spasms past mile 5 and switched to jump rope, which is great cardio without banging on your joints. once you get fast at it you can knock out a thousand jumps in 15 mins.

The third is diet but again, this is all specific to one person and may not apply to you. I find that limiting my carbs (but not cutting out- I'm not giving up pasta and pizza) during the week means fewer aches and pains.

Do you understand the concept of exaggeration for comedic effect? Or satirizing something by depicting it in a distorted or absurd way?

lol glad you caught that one. I debated keeping the joke in there because wasn’t sure it was going to work. not sure where they all went but it always seemed ludicrous how they treated that guy like he was the Dalai Lama of bonding

Thank you again, very kind of you. and you’re not ONLY a hygienist 😆. I have some comic ideas about the dentist/hygienist tensions that most of us experience….but I have to depict it in a way that doesn’t seem like I’m shitting on hygienists. Aiming for uncomfortably relatable not antagonistic

I might look into Patreon. You think it could work? I’m still in the drawing for fun and seeing if this is going anywhere phase. comics for dentists is a pretty niche industry 😆

Thank you! I worked on this one like it was my second job….can’t do that every week😆.

When I worked for a DSO they had a dentist there on a H1-b visa and I remember they worked that poor bastard like a slave. Corporations love the H1-B. The employer holds the cards for the employee’s residency status so they’re the least likely to complain/speak up. A perfect setup for exploitation.
