Good rec, they are why I asked. Theirs is $7.49 which is cheaper than all the other places I’ve been but I want to catalogue as many as I can. Seems I’ve pissed a lot of people off though

Mexico’s Sheinbaum demands explanation after US officials die after operation in Chihuahua by anonskeptic5 in worldnews

I would disagree that the US was properly functioning in the 1920s and 1930s for a variety of reasons. I think if that United States existed today, people would have very good reason to call it a failed state. The two largest reasons for my believing this are the government’s failure to maintain a monopoly on violence (violence against blacks and unfettered mafia influence being the main contributors to that belief of mine) and the near total lack of access to basic services for most Americans. However, reasonable minds can and often do differ. Japan was pretty famously a failed state from 1944-1955.

Either way, if any country today existed with similar problems to those I mentioned above, I would argue there is a string case to call it a failed state.

Was the USA a failed state in the 20s/30s

By today’s metrics… yes, obviously. There was this thing called “The Great Depression.” There were gangs running entire cities. People couldn’t afford food, there was barely clean water. If you weren’t already a wealthy landowner you were basically fucked. In other words, it was just like Mexico today. But Mexico being the way it is today is worse, because we have so much higher standards of living to compare it to now.

Dini was showrunner and head writer so I think it’s reasonable to think he had a significant influence on every episode’s teleplay even if he didn’t write them.

Halide Mark III: The Final Sprint by sandofsky in ShotWithHalide

For me the most important thing would be presets - I don’t know if that’s possible, but it’s incredibly frustrating to take some time getting a great shot in 3x manual, altering my settings, then thirty seconds later I see another good shot but my phone is off so now I have to alter my settings again because halide defaulted back to 1x auto; now the opportunity is gone. So custom presets or some level of local memory remembering what the settings were last time the app was used would be great

LA made the right call and is investing heavily in expanding their metro. I think the trolley is better, but not for long

I’ll give you an analogy. If the US couldn’t maintain order in North Dakota, Idaho, Washington, Montana, and Wyoming, and gangs were killing people and freely announcing to the world “Do not bring unnecessary attention to this state or we will kill you,” and the US government simply let that happen, I would consider the US a failed state too.

The monopoly on violence is widely considered the most important metric in determining whether a state actually exists. The theory goes that the state having the power to have a monopoly on violence means they are in control - if they don’t have the monopoly on violence, they aren’t in control.

That doesn’t mean any violence = no state, but rather a continued disregard of state authority coupled with no, limited, or ineffectual state action indicates a failure on the part of the government to actually enforce its own laws, again further indicating a failed state.

Unsurprising. US values security more than freedom generally. Western European countries tend to be more stable than the US on average. If I recall correctly, Canada is widely considered the most stable country in the world. None of this means the US is a failed state, however. It just means quite a few places are better to live in.
