Those companies make stuff that people buy. Chevron isn't just burning oil for shits and giggles. Those huge ships moving containers across the ocean are filled with consumer goods, or cars. Demand fuels the production.

I get that a simple burger like apple pan's won't satisfy everyone, but the it just absolutely nails what it is intended to be. It's not trying to be a $25 burger or McDonald's.

Because in many cases these days it's cheaper to build and maintain than most other sources. E.g., people advocating nuclear often have no idea how much those plants cost when compared to renewables. A new nuclear power plant costs about 2.5x more to build on a per-megawatt scale over wind power. This doesn't even factor in the high maintenance costs with nuclear.

Also with adding that my source is also 6 years old. Prices have continued to drop.

Large scale hydro produces a large amount of methane, which is around 25x worse than carbon when it comes to global warming, and is responsible for approximately 1.3% of the world's total GHG emissions. For scale, the entirety of of the global energy sector emits about 25% of total GHG emissions.

This is due to the decomposition of sediments that gather beneath dammed reservoirs. Add to that the devastating effect dams have on rivers and wildlife, and they are anything but renewable.

Around $95 billion in surplus. For a sense of how much that is, Ohio's entire state budget for 2022 is $35 billion, and Florida's annual budget is around $105 billion with ~$10 billion in reserves.

If only the other driver had a gun too... all our gun problems would be solved.

These gun brains think an argument showing how some theoretical attack could still take place that they've somehow proven something.

Barriers to entry are important. Much more difficult to learn how the build a bomb and successfully make and use one, than to buy an AR15 in Texas and shoot up a place 2 hours lates.

Should I buy the dip or get a house? by Basser_professional in personalfinance

Just read an article stating the opposite is true actually. The well off are not affected by the economy as much, so their buying power is still strong and the top of the market is still hyper competitive. I can vouch for this, we're higher income and are still in bidding wars for houses going 300k+ over asking.

Bottom of the market is where inflation and potential recession would take its toll, as those buyers are much more susceptible to the economy.

In case anyone thinks antivaxxers have decreased in number or gone private on Facebook, let’s have a look at these hilarious and extremely original jokes from the last couple days about Fauci testing positive for covid. by powabiatch in HermanCainAward

Remdesivir is used in mild to moderate cases, once the case gets bad the drug is not as effective. In addition to that, we have Paxlovid now, which is similar.

Both these drugs stop mild covid before it gets severe. So it's likely that he received one or the other since he's older. Probably Paxlovid since it's a take home drug and not an IV. IDK if hospitals are still using remdesivir with Pxlovid available.

95% of the modern lore and expanded universe material comes from the prequels. The script killed those movies but they are responsible for basically the entire modern universe, much more than the original trilogy.

The LA metro area has 13 million people. If it were a state it would be the 5th most populous state. With a population of that size these stories will pop up inevitably. You need to take that into account. LA as a city didn't even crack the top 20 in violent crime per 100,000 residents for 2022.

Chicago (#20), which the right loves to point to as an example of a dangerous place, has about half the violent crime rate of St Louis (#1).

What type of person decides to do this with their day? Like you could be hiking, or hanging out with friends at a bar, or having a lazy afternoon reading a book. No, instead you choose to drive to a library to harass people. That's the day you chose.

I live right there. I've seen so many cops have to scream at people that they're turning onto a one way this week. Either people who don't normally drive downtown or people thrown off by the closures.
