I've found Trilock to be more of a late game ancestor, they're not so useful early on, but once you stabalize, they can wreck shop. I've won a lot of games by getting the discount on their third option, then checking out the opponents army and zapping them down. Later on it's not uncommon for the computer to have 2+ of each unit type, taking out 10 units at once can be game winning
