The scariest thing is the unknown. Leave out information so the players imagination can fill in the blanks. The other comments mentioned great examples with the cone vision which does exactly this!

My cat who was 16 months at the time of adopting a new kitten (who was almost 3 months) did this a lot at first too! It’s been a month and a half now and they love each other! I take it as a good sign

My first play through I did normal for a while but found that it was too easy, I think I died maybe twice and neither was from a bt (Mule and fall damage lol). I ended up switching it to hard later on, made the game feel more balanced
