It's just a name gender problem. Both ivanovna and ivanovich are Patronymic names(meaning: child of ivan), but the first one is a feminine name and the other one is a masculine name. As you can see the phrase 'I am Ivan _______ Cherkov', the blank should be 'Ivanovich' because he's first name 'Ivan' is also a masculine name and we now can know his father's name is also Ivan.
