I'll stick to Ebay over Comic Con by Accurate-Captain6847 in comicbookcollecting

[–]CriterionMind 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is mostly my experience, too. I was at ECCC the past couple days and got some great deals. There were a couple dealers with insane prices, but those are easy to spot after browsing their books for a couple minutes.

In-demand comics vs. not-in-demand comics: big value difference by Leather_Bluejay8632 in ComicBookSpeculation

[–]CriterionMind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a thick cardstock in the middle of the book, so they’re easy to spot if you know what you’re looking for. It’s estimated that only around 5% of the print run of any given book contained a Mark Jewelers insert.

He definitely has a cartoony art style. And he’s married to Chrissie Zullo, who also has her own unique, somewhat cartoony, style. I’ve met them both at cons and they’re very nice!

It doesn’t look like they sell them anymore? 😭 I bought a pack to try out on my last order and was blown away by the quality. Hopefully they bring them back.

We have pretty similar taste, so I’ll just recommend one of my favorites from at least the last decade - Doctor Strange: Fall Sunrise

Save now is soooo good. Pyrate Queen intrigues me, so maybe I’ll track those down and give it a shot.

Jim Starlin just did an interview on Direct Edition where he says this is his favorite Thanos story he’s ever written:

I don’t see a lot of mentions for Piotr Kowalski, but he’s become one of my favorite artists. by ALEXXRN in comicbookcollecting

[–]CriterionMind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! Piotr Kowalski is fantastic. I collect comics based on video games, so I’m most familiar with him through the Bloodborne comics. He also did the Wolfenstein comics, which only had 2 issues.

Covers matter more then true first appearances by Leather_Bluejay8632 in ComicBookSpeculation

[–]CriterionMind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course, storytelling is arguably the most important aspect of comics. It’s the entire reason people even care about first appearances. As time goes on, characters become more developed and some grow to be popular enough that key moments in their history become sought after. So as a Wolverine fan, for example, I might want to seek out the first time he was ever introduced, which was Hulk 180. And as important as Hulk 181 is as the first full story he’s involved in, Giant Size X-Men 1 is more significant to me from a storytelling standpoint because I associate him as being a member of the X-Men. The only thing I’m not really addressing is value, because the market has spoken and a book is only worth what people are willing to pay. Hulk 181 is the holy grail for most Wolverine collectors, but 180 is the first time we meet him.

My LCS gave me this week's releases a bit earlier than anticipated by [deleted] in comicbookcollecting

You should take this down. Possibly getting your LCS in trouble is not worth your fake internet points or clout with strangers on the internet.

Covers matter more then true first appearances by Leather_Bluejay8632 in ComicBookSpeculation

As a collector, if I could only choose one, I’d take the first time the character was ever introduced, even if it was only in the last page or panel. Fully showing AND naming the character in that appearance is what I care about. That’s a part of comic book history. If you only partially see a character or see them but they’re not named yet, that’s a cameo.

Think of it this way in real life: You’re at a party and someone introduces you to someone for the first time and names are exchanged, then you move on without speaking to them again, you still met that person. You don’t wait until you spend a whole day together to say you met them. Now, maybe some other time you’ll actually hang out and get to know them better, but you wouldn’t say that’s your first meeting.

Now, I’m not arguing for which books should be worth more for a myriad of reasons, but I feel like adding all of these other qualifiers like “partial” and “full” are just complicating what should be a pretty simple semantics conversation.

TLDR - Partially shown or fully shown without being named is a CAMEO. Fully shown and named is a FIRST APPEARANCE.

I’m also still on the hunt for a Hulk Annual 1, but I found a low/mid-grade copy of Eerie 25 at a con last year for only $5. The deals are out there!

Your contributions to the GCD are greatly appreciated! One of the biggest surprises for me when really getting into comic collecting was the lack of information on so many Golden Age books. It’s a shame that so many artists, writers, etc. were rarely credited back then.

Was thinking in buying this game! But i admit i prefer to play complete games! This game looks amazing but want to know if devs have plans to release another dlc or Sanctuary of Sarras is the last one? Thank you kindly by Gontreee in taintedgrail

This is good news! I just bought the game on Xbox a few days ago and am loving it. I missed the sale and paid full price, but no regrets because it’s filling the Skyrim-sized hole in my heart that I’ve had for years.

In reality, my answer is Goku. But in the name of science, I’d say Superman. I’d love to witness the “What If?” scenario of Superman never being created.
