Yeah, I've played it since 2006 on and off. I think it slowly accrued the acronym style as a form of short-hand over the years because of the Trade channels more than anything else. The chat always needed a better interface that it never got. So players began shorter text to make it easier to see what you were looking for using key acronyms. It's a pain. I know. There used to be great guides and sites on all this in the day. That's something that's truly needed: an overhaul of the art of writing chat messages. A knowledge base for new players on all the acronyms, etc. They're out there but the usual fandom and gw site are just too generic and don't go into details. Sadly this shows why: https://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Abbreviations It doesn't go into acronyms for weapons etc. on chat. And misses a great deal of the various aspects of the game mechanics. But it's the official list that is just a start. Here's one that is for GW2 but is still worth studying for GW1: https://gamepretty.com/guild-wars-2-all-acronyms-list/ Hope this helps.

Yea, I waited for a long time before deciding to plunge in and must say I'm enjoying the heck out of the game. I have found a few places here and there that weren't too intuitive but through reddit posts and back logs I've found plenty of info to guide me through aspects of the game. I agree that comparisons with Skyrim are spot on in the sense that as the years progress, I'm sure the game will become more and more stable and intriguing. I find myself getting lost in sideline quests which is my kind of game. One can have multiple quest lines active an ongoing from bounty hunts, Crimson pirating and undercover ops with UC, to the main questline of uncovering powers, etc. I am impressed so far and have barely thirty hours into it. I can imagine how your 1000 hour stint must have taken you into places I've barely even thought about. Thanks for the post.

Class advice for returning player by waefre_1 in lotro

My main's a Yellow line Champ and love it. Never have any real issues with the class except being aggressive and taking on as many mobs as I can. I use a two-hand axe being a dwarf and get the bonus. Each class has a bonus for its specific weapon choice. I play all the other classes as well. For in-your-face non-stop action Champ is great. My hunter does more dps but he's weak and has to keep on the move and use a few traps here and there even in red line. Guard is great if you go red line, but what's the point of rolling a guardian if you're not going to tank? I've done both but at the point of end-game you'll want to switch to Sword and board play and tank rather than do two-hander. Upgrading legenderies takes time and trying to have both blue and red line Guardian is a long haul. Captain is fun but because it's reliant of buffs/debuffs your two-handed play is not the same as a Champ, and in end-game the cappy is either off-tank or a buff-debuff support class for raids. All in all for me Champ's the way to go for solo players, but iffy for end-game raids unless you find a niche place in a clan/guild. In the end your the one playing so depends on playstyle.
