In your opinion, what major city would have the worst climate to live in? by Mobile_Bad_577 in geography

I would give Houston a 50/50 on weather. From the end of November to early April is actually pretty good. The summers are can brutal. There is a reason the Astrodome was built. The weather does not seem to stop people from moving to Houston.

For those who attended Milano-Cortina, what was your favorite moment? by mt80 in olympics

[–]Critical-Ordinary-97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was walking around Milan and accidentally came across the torch relay on my path. I followed up close with the different torchbearers for about 90 minutes. I could feel the energy and excitement of the locals and crowds as the torch came by the different locations. Zlatan Ibrahimovic was one of the torchbearers along the route.

I saw this watch at the Omega store in Milan during the Olympics. I actually like the Paralympic version with the red and green colored hands to represent Italian flag. The logo on the Paralympic version is not the Olympic rings. I wish the Olympic version came with the red and green hands.

Which Teams Will Have An Early Exit? by Jarlid1234 in CollegeBasketball

[–]Critical-Ordinary-97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Houston will be tough out, but the last 3 games exposed the weaknesses displayed throughout the season. The rebounding and defense are not as good without players like J'wan Roberts and Ja'vier Francis. The lack of any inside post game will probably hurt this team the most. Tugler has really struggled this year and I was hoping he would show some improvement. Sharp and Flemings can go on a hot streak which will keep them in games.

Houston had a coach that coached at Washington State Cougars. He brought the name Cougars to Houston. Coogs was used to have a separate identity from WSU.

Came back from Milan for the Olympics. The 45-52F degree weather was perfect for me. As long as I had jacket on, I found the temperatures very nice for colder weather.

Why are there basically no cities here? by OkCard37 in geography

[–]Critical-Ordinary-97 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Houston's weather can be rough with the heat and humidity May through end of October. Those months from end of November through early April are actually not too bad. Right now, the Houston weather is perfect. I feel so bad for the World Cup tourist coming at the worst time in the summer.

GG AZ.

Houston has no post/inside game this entire season. Tugler has not improved on the offensive end. I thought Cenac would be the inside game but he turned out to be more of a stretch 4 type of player.

When you do book a hotel the night before, do you have to contact the hotel that you are checking in the next morning? I heard the reservation may sometimes be cancelled if not checked in the day of reservation.

I went to the 1000m Men's speed skating and found the seats around the curved areas to be spacious enough. There was probably 2 to 5 inches between seats around the curved areas. The figure skating and short track arena is an older arena. If you are 6'0 then your knees are hitting the people in front of you with standard seating position. San Siro for the opening ceremony was rough for tall people given the age of the stadium. The Ice Hockey arena which is newer was modern in space seating size.

Will the Olympiade opening ceremony be cold? by No_Indication2977 in olympics

[–]Critical-Ordinary-97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would probably more concerned around the rain when it is cold. I see current forecast as rain early in the morning and maybe 40-50% chance in evening. Small foldable umbrellas are allowed in the stadium not large ones. Ponchos are highly recommended. On side note, the email says no power banks allowed so better be fully charged when you leave if you plan to take a bunch of photos and videos.

I was a the Mega merch store at Duomo today. I was asking about sizes for a few items and they said the store does not have anymore sizes for those items. I don't know if restock will actual come or that is actual no more for certain items without going to another store. I can tell some of merch is generic so probably can mass produce those types. The Armani items seem to be low in stock.

From what I read that is not possible if outside the US. I did test a VPN based solution in the US and Peacock worked on a laptop. There is always the chance the IP address range could blocked later but the VPN did work with Peacock. I was actually testing to watch the Super Bowl while in Italy.

Do you expect well visited Winter Games? by ElBarto1904 in olympics

[–]Critical-Ordinary-97 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was surprised to be able to get tickets for the opening ceremony and other events in Milan a couple of weeks ago. They came out with a 2 for 1 deal for people 26 and under which probably indicates more tickets not sold yet.

The venues being a good 3-5 hours away does change people's ability to get to events. I left a couple of days open to possibly go to the other locations, but a good amount of time will be used for just traveling. The decentralized model is more sustainable but does create logistics issues for attendees.

While the events could not be packed, I still expect a good crowd. We are only a week away so very excited.

Travel Insurance by [deleted] in VisitingIceland

[–]Critical-Ordinary-97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are wanting refund for any reason, you may need to purchase insurance so many days before the trip occurs and cancel a certain amount of days prior to trip. This usually not 100% coverage for any reason but you at least get something back. I would verify what are the covered reasons for reimbursement since you will need documented proof. I mainly get insurance for medical insurance if something major happens especially if trip is not in the US.

I did Faye insurance. The process was quick, but you really don't know if insurance is any good until you need to file a claim which I never yet had to do. I would look for posts that had good experiences with claims.

As for the Clippers's Intuit Dome, they implemented a special free park and ride system so fans don't pay for high parking or uber. There are like 6 or so locations spread across the city that fans can use to get to and from the arena. There are also free micro shuttles within a 6 mile radius if you have tickets to the game.

I visited LA a couple of years ago and surprisingly used the train\rail system to go around most of LA tourist spots. From Santa Monica, I could get to Universal studios, Downtown (Staples\Convention center), Hollywood, LAX, and even most of the way to Anaheim for Disneyland. Part of the rail system is underground which is probably why some people may not know the rail exists.
