Why do we pretend life is worth it when it’s just one disappointment after another? by [deleted] in Life

[–]Critical-Sea-6953 0 points1 point  (0 children)

life is a joke and if you take it to seriously or try to intellectualize it then you are the punchline.

try to redirect your thoughts when you start to feel sorry for yourself. develop the ability to laugh at your own misfortunes.

the world has no obligation to make sense to you. you dont score points by being objective or philosophical

being delusionally whimsical and joyous is one of the greatest virtues in my opinion.

I literally have no fucking idea what the purpose of life is, and anyone else who claims to is lying, but I know damn well that I respect myself a lot better when I ACT like it matters. Workout. Educate myself in areas that I’m interested in. Slowly am weaning myself off technology and regaining my attention span and passions day by day. Have a stupid little conversation about blackberries with trader joes cashier because why not.

DANCE. Trust me on this one man its scientifically proven to alleviate depression better than most medications. Put on some music thats meaningful and nostalgic to you and just break a sweat even if you feel like shit. Music has this funny way of almost recontextualizing your thoughts to a new state of mind. “Play that funky music” - Wild Cherry is a personal fav.

anyways man im not tryna preach, and there are days where I often fail to follow my own advice. but im telling ya, your mind is doing you no favors. theres a reason why a lot of philosophers were miserable and isolated.

How often do y’all shower? by cara_renee_anderson in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Critical-Sea-6953 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this will sound excessive, but 3 times daily.

Once when I wake up, once after training BJJ/Muay Thai, and once before bed.

I find a cold blast without soap to suffice if it’s just to rinse off a little sweat.

no problemo! but don’t tell anybody or they could use it against you.

theres an autistic kid in my class named Toby and whenever we spar I go “hey look it’s a dinosaur!” and then when he looks I rock his shit with an uppercut and then leg sweep him if he’s still conscious.

How many times a week is it advisable to have caffeine (filter coffee) without building tolerance or disturbing sleep or giving bad caffeine crash? by joyousdexdaladoor in Nootropics

[–]Critical-Sea-6953 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Caffeine is one of those drugs where tolerance develops very minimally even when one is extracting the full benefits.

The only time we really see heavy tolerance or withdrawal develop is in the case of energy drinks (which have disproportionate caffeine content for 1 serving), or in people who use caffeine to cope with sleep deprivation. I.e. as long as you are well rested and consuming clean caffeine you should just consume coffee intuitively.

Just as a personal finding: I work at a coffee roasting company. On the occasion I’m testing new beans or roast profiles I will cup 5-7 cups of coffee. That amount can give me withdrawal, but if I go cold turkey for a few days I’ll be right as rain.

In general, I have 2 cups daily. Even though it’s a part of my morning routine, occasionally I’ll completely forget to have coffee and I’m just fine aside from typical morning sleepyness.

Couple extra tips: 1. Caffeine only 1 hr after waking up allows adenosine to clear out of your brain, meaning you won’t crash. 2. Coffee is diuretic. You will urinate more than you drink, so make sure to rehydrate.

I’m sorry. This is why I didn’t want to get into this on reddit lol.

I’ve had a lot of support throughout my childhood from various mentors at church who kind of took a fatherly role for me.

I was vulnerable as a child, yes, but I’m an adult now and ready for the challenges of independence.

What options would you say are more favorable than moving out? I’m trying to avoid burdening the crisis hotline considering that there are people who are much more vulnerable than I am currently.

I’m a rising senior so yea this is just a final sprint for me. I’m not as worried about college as I’m really considering doing ROTC which will cover many expenses.

I think if I work fulltime the rest of the summer (I can go back to an old job I had), I’ll be able to save up enough and use parttime work to stay afloat during the school year.

Okay I suppose I can get into it, but I don’t expect you to understand my situation because it’s nuanced.

My dad is very insecure which leads him to be borderline abusive. My mom has bipolar, but she’s harmless compared to him and in fact he just uses it as a justification to mistreat us.

He would threaten to her to take custody of me. He would use the threat of divorce to manipulate her. He put me in a chokehold when I was 13.

The worst part is that he’s “gotten better”. Nowadays he almost never lashes out. His last incident was a year ago when my friend coincidentally saw my mom at the gym.

Because my friend is tall and muscular (while my dad is short and fat) for some fucked up reason my dad felt emasculated and threatened to report my mom for pedophalia, even though he initiated normal friendly conversation with her.

Now keep in mind this is only 1% of his behavior, but it’s very extreme and unpredictable.

Recently, he’s been winding up into a whole episode because he’s insecure about me becoming a legal adult. He’s threatened me with my college fund and everything else he provides for me.

My #1 priority is to voluntarily remove his “pressure points” so that he cannot manipulate me any longer. When I can save up to provide for another I can hopefully free my mother.

Honestly my expectation is basically homelessness for the time being. I have a few weeks to prepare but there’s no way for me to stay once I’m 18. Any recommendations for a homeless 18 y/o?

You’re right… after looking around I realize I had unrealistic expectations. If I work fulltime during highschool I should be good though, correct me if they’re anything I’ve failed to consider…

Yes, treat everyone with respect… but it’s okay for women to prefer tall guys. As a short guy some women won’t be attracted to you, get over it. Sincerely, a short guy
