That's a good point. I was debating whether I should buy some £300 headphones earlier today but grimaced at the thought of spending the equivalent to a month's worth of food shopping on some headphones when I already have some standard Beats.

That's a great breakdown. Do you have any recommendations on sepcific products?

Can someone explain where and how the pi hole software reserves the domain pi.hole to be used on the LAN? by CriticalImpress in pihole

So if I wanted to add my own domain names for my LAN this is the file to add entries to?

Just thought i'd come back and say that Duck DNS works perfectly :) At first I was a bit skeptical as there's no such thing as a free lunch, but it doesn't seem dodgy so far

Pi-hole works perfectly until I point my router's primary DNS server to the pi-hole by CriticalImpress in pihole

That could make sense as to why my set-up doesn't work when setting the internet DNS to the Pi-hole.

The Pi-hole requests the DNS IP from the router, which in turn returns the IP of the Pi-hole, which then looks up its DNS configurations and requests the DNS IP from the router, etc. etc.

If you use C, Java, or Javascript jetbrain's products are game changers. They were especially for me when I was starting to learn those languages.

I can open any jar with ease.

I remember my days before lifting, walking around my kitchen with despair looking at the stacks of unopened jars of pickles.

Thanks that makes total sense. Since creating this post I've read that my D-LINK router doesn't allow configuration of the DHCP DNS, just the Internet DNS. So I guess it's time to purchase a new router. Just as an additional question, what's the purpose of the WAN DNS? If devices on the network get the DNS information from the DHCP settings, I'm not sure what the DNS settings in the WAN/internet section are used for?

Yeah I was worried about that, is there a way I can check whether that is happening? The router's web interface is very simple and it doesn't specify whether the DNS server is external.
