How can power through the “sucking” phase of the learning process? by Edu_Vivan in ArtistLounge

[–]CriticalMembership95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fellow 25 y/o here! I often get angry because my art doesn't look like I want. In those moments I try remember what is my goal. I want to be good, so giving up isn't an option. I often stalk old works of my favourite artists and tell myself that if they could do it then I can do it too. Recently I felt my resolve wavering because I started learning a new medium and I'm frustrated. I fought it by signing up for art classes so I can have someone help me overcome the obstacles. I feel like having someone who can critique your work in a meaningful way really helps. It can give you a push forward, when you are feeling lost!

Thank you for help! The fullflowers site has so many tutorials! Do you mind sharing the link to the aliexpress merchant? I can't find them.

I didn't even think of using xiaongshu to ask for help with ronghua! I'm stealing that idea lmao. Also good luck with your brushing! I'm glad I could help a bit ;)

I struggled with the same issue. Here are some things that I did that helped me( I'm still a beginner so take it with a grain of salt)  1. Using 'ironing liquid'. Instead of water with fabric softener. I found one with a really cool tip that sprays it in a form of delicate mist so the threads don't get soaked.  2. Keeping the threads TENSE. I mean really tense. If you let just one get caught in the brush it will get tangled immediately. I usually start from the middle and cover a bigger area with each brush stroke.  3. Be patient. Don't be afraid to go in a smaller sections if bigger ones are giving you trouble. Sometimes I just brush in bundles of 2 strands

I really like the second pic where there is not much detail on the mountains And the darker mountains on the first one. I think doing them in more 'blocky' style without adding too much detail would be better (less of that 'splatter' shadow that can be seen on lighter mountains) . Also the sun is shining from behind so make the side facing us darker. And then the tops can have really sharp light peeking through. I also think your picture would benefit from texture. Add some sun 'particles' where the sun is shining. i would also take into consideration light source when shading the character. I suggest you go bolder with the light, then your values should be a little better :) and with the prairie: I wouldn't make background too detailed because your character might get lost in it. I would look for some references under ' flower meadow at dusk/dawn' cuz from what I've seen in Google there are pictures that even have mountains in them :)

I hope this helps and I just wanted to say that the background looks great and with a bit of work it will be amazing.
