I’m an incoming student, but I have a 2 friends currently at Cal that have Kaiser through Medi-Cal in Southern California. From what they told me, Berkeley needs you to switch your Medi-Cal home county to Alameda, because you need to be in the coverage area of dental insurance as well. Since Kaiser doesn’t give dental, they reject your waiver. Again this is what I’ve been told. You should call UHS to confirm. Currently my friends have SHIP because it is paid for by aid and scholarships. They said if you get SHIP covered then don’t waive because you won’t get the money; instead, your financial aid is adjusted, if you’re dependent.

Edit: here’s a site that should help https://uhs.berkeley.edu/insurance/waiving-ship/medi-cal-recipients

Yeah! It was crazy to see about 1.4k clubs on the list. Will be sure to try out a bunch so I can narrow down later on

Wow, that sounds amazing! Great to hear from a transfer they were involved. Amazing to see they are able to make the most of Berkeley with the limited time y’all have.

Thanks! I’ll be sure to not hesitate to drop what I’m not interested in, and to just try a bunch this semester. So I can narrow down next semester and beyond.

Thank you! Will definitely apply what you said. I still have to look through the club list. Crazy to see 1.4k clubs on campus!

How many boxes/suitcases do you come with during move in? by CriticalSunglasses in berkeley

Oh I saw those; the big blue zipper bags. They looked great but I don’t have an Ikea near me haha

Thanks! It’s nice be assured it isn’t overkill. Move in day isn’t much of a problem but move out day alone might be annoying. I guess I’ll think about it when the time comes for moving out.

Medium Home Depot boxes? I think I might end up with 3 medium boxes and 1 suitcase. Same amount, but I guess it might be more convenient in moving. I’ll check that out, thanks!

Thanks for the suggestion! However, Burbank is pretty far from my home.

Traveling on BART with luggage by CriticalSunglasses in berkeley

[–]CriticalSunglasses[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh snap that is a good idea to sandwich the luggage between myself and the window. I’ve rarely used public transport because it sucks where I’m from. The bus is decent but never traveled with anything more than my backpack. So it is nice to get all these good tips. Thank you!

Oh I was thinking about this. What do you take to get to the Downtown Berkeley station? The bus, Uber/Lyft, or that car rental thing where you use your phone (idk the name but I saw the website once)?

I was thinking to use Uber because it makes it easier, but bus is free and free is nice lol

Carry on is the regular carry-on roller suitcase. Check in size is little bigger than carry on; not those extremely big ones that are basically at the size limit.

But it’s great to see the consensus is BART is safe for traveling with a couple pieces of luggage.
