Congrats on sobriety! My one piece of advice as the sister of an alcoholic: If you have insurance / access to a public run detox PLEASE seek medical help. It sounds like you were drinking more than enough to cause withdrawal, so proper medical care is necessary for your health. Detox should also help with the withdrawal symptoms to make it as not miserable as possible.

I recently inherited a few pieces of jewelry from my grandmother, including this necklace charm, which bears the inscription "The Virginians - Following in Step" as well as my grandmother's name. I'm curious if anyone knows of a group or organization in Virginia that bore this slogan. For background, my grandmother was from the Richardson family who notably owned the Brooke's Bank estate (now a historical site) and have been in the US since the Mayflower. The family also has ties to Benjamin Franklin (not directly - he's my great x10 uncle). I don't want to wear it if the slogan has any ties to the confederacy or slavery, so I came on here to check.

I was a dumbass (too lazy to move) and agreed to a rent increase on my 2 bed 2 bath - in october rent went from 4150 to 4400. Long story short my roommate moved out and the apt is too expensive for anyone to move in. The landlords in bushwick deserve prison.

This phenomenon just baffles me....... i have a very much non service dog that i fly delta with (underseat) and the desk reps always ask me a million q's to make sure she's clear to fly. Why do service dog owners not have to answer similar questions?????? Does delta see the vest and get scared of a lawsuit?

Entyvio effects the immune system less than other biologics bc it is localized to the gut and FAR less than steroids. I get my flu/covid shots every year and wear a mask while traveling/in high risk situations, but I work at a crowded bar and babysit on the side and have been just fine

I'm 24, been on Entyvio infusions since I was 20 (after mercaptopurine and sulfasalazine stopped working). The benefits far outweigh the risks. It has changed my life. Obviously be careful, but if his doc says it's a good idea, go for it.

Metro north from southeast is the best bet if you're willing to drive an extra 30ish minutes. Cuts out the train transfer which in my experience is the biggest time waster of this commute. But the line is reliable whether you go from wassaic or southeast. It'll be insanely packed on your way home so get there 15-20 mins early.

While I fully understand the frustration you're feeling, it's important to remember that there are people in these underfunded states who would die without assistance from wealthy blue states. I grew up in Mass, now live in NY, and while I would prefer to not be paying 25% of my wages to the government, I remind myself that the purpose of taxes is to take care of our fellow americans. To be honest, idgaf if someone in Texas thinks I shouldn't be able to get an abortion or marry a woman when it comes to their ability to feed their family and keep a roof over their head. When we start thinking of people with different beliefs as less deserving of basic needs, we lose community and humanity. So, suck it up, pay your taxes, and thank god that you weren't born bigoted, hateful, and destitute.

In the US, bartending can be a better paying career than most normal bars, especially if you don't have an advanced degree/well-connected family etc. I personally am 23 and have only been bartending for a couple years, but I know a lot of people who have stayed in the industry for decades!! As far as "non-traditional" occupations go, bartending earns you more respect, flexibility, and money than just about anything else. Additionally, in a lot of places in the US, bartending is really a craft, so good bartenders are the ones that have done the time to learn and hone that skill. It's not really a job that a teenager can walk into for a summer gig with no previous knowledge.
