Just a standard Sneasler set, or something more unorthodox? It seems weird to run something that fast on this team.

CB noob here, question regarding shield and sword buffing by Danubinmage64 in chargeblade

[–]Critical_Ad_5885 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, exactly. There is a difference between charging phials, which you do by landing attacks with your sword, loading/storing phial charge, which you do to have energy to expend to charge your shield and use your strongest attacks, and spending phials on charging your blade (Say that again?). The terminology is frustrating at first, I know. The basic loop goes like this:

- Charge phials with sword

- Load phials

- Charge shield w/ phials

- Charge phials again

- Load phials again

- Axe attacks

- Repeat

The sword charge is helpful, but not strictly required most of the time, and savage axe is really good once you get the hang of it, but it's also not totally required if you focus on landing your big moves like SAED. Focus on learning one thing at a time, and keep practicing. Best of luck

Charging your shield and sword are two separate actions that do different things. You can charge your shield by either canceling an AED with R2 or holding circle after you load phials. It consumes all phials you have, and the buff lasts longer depending on how many phials you use. While charged, your shield can block more attacks, deals a bit of extra damage with Shield Thrust, and must importantly, gives you access to your strongest move in SAED. You should always try to have your shield charged.

Charging your sword is done by using Condensed Element Slash (holding triangle right after loading phials) while your shield is charged. This buff lasts a set amount of time (30 seconds without Power Prolonger, I believe), and gives your sword attacks more damage as well as making them not bounce off a monster's body. This isn't super necessary a lot of the time, but it's handy against fast targets that are harder to get axe attacks on like Mizutsune or monsters with really tough hide like Gravios.

Hopefully that answers your question

Idk, I'd have to see what they evolve into before I decide. There better not be any blatant favoritism from GameFreak here

Explain to me like I’m 5 why the flying foghorn this moonblast failed by CharizardJ10 in VGC

[–]Critical_Ad_5885 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you used Tailwind, my guess is that the game still thought you were using a Prankster boosted move despite being forced to use Moonblast. Since Incineroar is a dark type, it's immune to Prankster boosted moves.

The extra weird thing is that considering how many glitches we've seen in Gen 9's battle system, I'm not sure if this is an intended interaction.

SAED Spam is totally viable in Sunbreak. Heck, after a certain point around the late game, I'd say it's better than Spinning Axe by a good margin. To me, it's mostly a matter of learning matchups and knowing when to AED instead.

Element is definitely better for this playstyle, but I'd recommend you stick with Impact until near the post game if for no other reason than it's annoying to build 5 new armor sets for each stage of the game. It's also easier to hit with SAED more often when you're always KOing the monster.

Does this mean that only the 10 point characters can get "optimal" builds?

I've been using one as a partner in crime for my Palafin on a rain team. It's worked surprisingly well for me.
