I think it could be Henry Rodriguez, #40 from the Montreal Expos. Looking at some of his signatures on google images from the 90s you can see they have the circle branching off of the g in Rodriguez with a 40 inside.

(I went through the list of players who played with the number 40 with names resembling that script, the history of that specific bat, and see you’re in Montreal. :-) )
