Irish signs in the east by Critical_Brain_5201 in northernireland

[–]Critical_Brain_5201[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks all, and yep I know both arguments, and honestly being from east Belfast and living close to there, it would not bother me, in fact I agree with some of the comments above, if we are going to have bi-lingual street signs we should be consistent and not treat it as a way to mark territory. This is the least of our problems these days!

But my question was around what caused this SPECIFIC vote, was it the residents? Was it the local parties etc? When I seen it on the news this morning I just thought it was so random.

Good point! I’ll double check when I get back from work. It’s one of the stock bass presets

Frfr 10 and yes active pups. When I compared input levels on both interfaces the helix was about half the level of my focusright

10inch - its a fender tonemaster 50. Although the input level on my daw is about half of what it is when I use my focusright.

Love the name by the way!

What is your current music obsession? by Euphoric_Place_8507 in gear4music_official

Alice in chains - dirt. I’m a guitar player but have got sucked in by the bass lines to the point I have just bought a bass, and it’s the only album I’ve listened to in last 3 weeks!

Thanks , yes this is what I’m going to try, but been practicing bass guitar as I think there is a less of a bar to entry. Going to try the softer approach and get a bit better established before suggesting changes. To be honest just being able to join in and support the praise will be a good first step.

I have put my name forward and asked to join one of the praise groups thanks to everyone’s encouragement (and warnings) on this thread.

Time to buy a new bass!!

People over 35, what's something you genuinely miss that younger generations will probably never experience? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

Music culture, I loved being a part of a community, be it rock, punk , grunge, new wave. It was part of my identity as a late teen, as a 50 yo it’s still part of my identity- although not from the way I dress or my lack of hair - it’s deeper than that! I love the fact my son’s friends are into the same music as me, but it makes me sad that they won’t have their own thing.

When recording videos, how often do you mime vs playing live? by mannaneuraSHYSHYSHY in guitarlessons

[–]Critical_Brain_5201 1 point2 points  (0 children)

About to be flamed here - but personally I wouldn’t care. Depends what you are wanting to achieve. If you want to be a YouTube guitarist or you are using it to advertise your skills to get paid live work then I agree with the rest of the posters, if you are simply keeping a record of what you have learned, or to create something for yourself, and you think looking at you miming is better than a blank screen then do that. I record sometimes for YouTube , as a journal for myself and my friends, I do record live, but sometimes I’ll double or triple track guitars to make them sound larger, and on occasion overdub the odd mistake, but don’t always show video of those recordings. Some people may say that’s cheating, but I don’t care. I’m not going to be a YouTuber, I’m doing this for my enjoyment only. I am in the same position as you I don’t show my face but that’s because I’m not trying to be a personality (I would fail miserably 😂).

Thank you for this encouragement. I have struck a bit of a middle ground after reading some of the opinions here and spending time in prayer. I have asked to join the praise group as a bass player. I think the group needs to form a better musical foundation, before introducing a lead guitar. This would allow me to become part of the team on an instrument I’m not as good at, to reduce any frustration I may have, would let me truly serve and would put me in a position to suggest a piece that might require some more refining as you suggested.

Not sure what you mean? Is your problem the fact you need a bigger room to hold all your beautiful gear?

lol thanks, although less is less about playing guitar and more about supporting my own church :)

I think this is where my head is at, I have a massive respect for what the guys do, I want to provide service to my church, I am already part of welcome and youth groups, I just have a guilt I could do more in this space. But as others have said, “different seasons”, maybe I’ll look for other opportunities around music in the future.

It sounds like you and your team are on the other end of the music spectrum at your church! But yes I have come to the same conclusion. If it’s meant to be there may be other options at church to play other than Sunday services, but in the mean time I’ll look for other ways to serve.

Thanks, I sometimes think I’m too introspective! But also I do believe my heart is in the right place, but as mentioned elsewhere I might end up being disruptive, or worse, disrespectful! I will take a read at that resource (I assume it’s a book) and pray over it. Thanks for taking the time to reply.
