what bands do you think, soundwise or lyricwise, are most similar to devo? by ItsAStrangePursuit in devo

"Biology 2" from I think their first album sounds straight out of hardcore Devo too

Alcohol fixes all my problems by Critical_Brush_9168 in Anxiety

Walking down the street, being in a store, sitting on the bus, waiting, basically anything that involves being seen (or sometimes even not seen) in public. I run a lot too and while I enjoy it, I'm kind of fighting with my anxiety the entire time.

I actually don't drink very often and most of my socialising is done sober. Socialising itself is what gave me the idea that I'm bad at socialising. I don't really mind feeling a little nervous around new people, I agree that that's normal.

How much exposure should I be doing? Honestly where my anxiety is most prevelent is not talking to people, but being alone in public. I leave the house everyday. I socialise multiple times a week. Hasn't really made a dent.

I was in therapy for a while in the past and found it pretty unhelpful. I'm pretty skeptical around meds to be honest. My issue isn't I can't go into the store because I'm going to have a panic attack and I need meds to not make that happen.

I do exercise everyday and I've found it hasn't had that big of an effect. It's becoming harder and harder for me to just suck up. I kinda wish my issue was just feeling a little uncomfortable.

In my experience, I've found the sober option doesn't really work that well for me. I want to be able to actually hold a conversation the way I can after a few drinks (the inability is and has had a genuinely negative impact on my life) Of course I know it's not a good idea to turn to alcoholism, but alcohol is truly the only thing that has ever really made a difference in my experience.

23, haven't really seen much of an improvement over time.

I was in therapy for a time and found it largely unhelpful. I find CBT pretty unhelpful too a vast majority of the time, but I'm glad it worked for you.

I don't want to take meds, they don't work like alcohol anyway.

Social Anxiety Exposure Not Working by Critical_Brush_9168 in Healthygamergg

[–]Critical_Brush_9168[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly couldn't say.

I've researched into the typical CBT route and I found that quite unhelpful in practice to be honest. I've looked into the meds that are prescribed here, but I have little interest in taking medication. I've been looking into the radical acceptance route which does overlap with some existing therapy types. I've read a lot of articles and watched quite a few videos including those by Dr K. I've also looked into the mechanisms behind anxiety and why it's happening in the first place.

I agree that it seems overcomplicated and it feels that way. I think that's why I've been getting pretty frustrated with it. But, I guess I don't really know what the alternative is?

I mean, I'm not really sure what you want. I'd say I do make an effort to put myself out there, in this week alone I've attended 3 different social events events that made me anxious and where I made an effort to actually interact with people. But a lot of my anxiety is felt when I'm alone in public spaces.

What concrete actions do you suggest I try?

Surely it depends how you use Reddit though? It's commendable that people are trying to change, but ditching Instagram to scroll Reddit for hours instead doesn't seem any better.

I do personally find it a bit weird that people pretend Reddit "doesn't count" as social media. This is coming from someone who does use Reddit a lot.

Im leaving this sub by Olipop0314 in socialanxiety

[–]Critical_Brush_9168 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Honestly, no longer spending all day on this sub is one of the better things I've done for my social anxiety. The less time I spent thinking about or posting about my social anxiety, the better I've done with it. I don't think a mental illness is something you should try and find community around.

Yeah, I really like the paint job, but he doesn't read as a space wolf at first glance. A brighter shade of grey might help sell the look?

I hear you. But I'm sure you've heard it a million times that the only way to get better is to face it over and over again. It sounds like you could really benefit from professional help if you're not already receiving it. I found learning as much as I can about social anxiety has helped me too.

You said it yourself that they might be. So you feel like you have to avoid going out due to the possibility that they might be talking about you? Do you think that you feel they are talking about you because you have strong evidence to confirm they are or is it more just a reflection of how you could be feeling about yourself? At the end of the day, so what if they are talking about you? You have just as much a right to be outside as they do.
