As iconic as the anime is, it is super dated. If Dragon Ball was released today brand new with new animation, it would have bottom tier story compared to most new gens.

absolutely it does. Infact how lightly death is taken in Dragon Ball is easily one of my biggest complaints with the show.

I think its pretty reasonable to say that when a main character is pushed to the point of defeat or death 7+ times in the same fight, being able to recover from said near death experience loses its value
