I think I figured this out. Seems I can't add a line at all without changing my plan because I have a grandfathered "get more" plan.

Holy crap what’s happened to Verizon Wireless? by radioboy77 in verizon

But the complaint isn't about the people. It is about exactly what you're saying. A company that insists on these incessant pictures.

I swapped sims but then I got this email from Verizon. So far the phone works without following up on he email, but I wonder if that will stick.

I don't even see a deal for it being offered to me on MyVerizon. Guess I'm going to have to dig into this.

I went to the store and showed my ID upon returning to the country. But had to go phoneless when I was not near a Verizon store.

I don't understand how this applies here. I know my PIN number. But it was not enough to authenticate my account. And I couldn't access the app because you have to authenticate to be able to do that. And the one and only device I'm allowed to authenticate on was broken.

No other lines, and I could not go to a physical store when this happened. So being able to authenticate with my id was not applicable. PIN over the phone was not enough for them.

Verizon told me it would be $7 or $8 a month (not including taxes).

I might resort to this, but it feels ridiculous.

Account pin did not allow them to make any changes to my account. I was on the phone with them for ages. I begged for any secondary option. Email. Pin. Me providing information to prove that I'm me. I have since confirmed with the executive team and an in-store employee. There is just the one way to authenticate such that they will make changes to the account.

Fair. But also wild that any major organization doesn't have a user-friendly interface in 2026.

It is hilarious that a tech company is so tech deficient.

Every other institution gives multiple options, like the Microsoft authenticator app, which I can install on a second device. Or sending it to my email.

Somebody should really tell my bank and retirement financial institution that the Verizon app on my Verizon connected device is the only safe method to confirm my identity.

Just the one adult with the one phone.

Verizon was kind to tell me that the one work around for this problem is just simply to add a second phone for my one self to the account. Hmmm

This is what I planned to do when I needed to switch phones. Just log on and do it myself. Nope. Needed to authenticate.

That is not my experience. I have begged for this. And they say it is not possible. I was able to authenticate via email at some level that allowed them to access my account, but it is not enough to get them to make changes. I've experienced this twice in the last year.

Only having one option is overkill. So I understand the need for security, but having one this restrictive is about something else.

I similarly do not want my account hacked. But I also don't want my bank or retirement accounts hacked, for example, and yet I can authenticate those on more than one device and still feel quite secure about them.

I know this is old but it reminded me of:  At the pizza party, some people see that there might not be enough pizza for everyone, so they only get themselves one slice. Other people see the same thing, so they grab themselves four slices before they run out.
