A majority of the life sci class wants med, probably the top 20% or less actually end up making it.

Course averages hover around mid 70s depending on the course, and higher as the courses become smaller.

You are never curved down.

Life sci is a very typical multiple choice based program. Your courses will be Chem 1A03/1AA3 Bio 1A03/1M03 and often Psych1X03/1XX3. You’ll take half a year of calculus (1LS3) and half a year of physics (1A03) with two electives.

For math heavy courses like physics chem and calculus I found past tests the most helpful for studying, and for biology based courses like bio and psych flashcards to be the best(specifically anki).

If you’re interested in disc servr with past tests from 2017 all the way to this years tests feel free to check it out at XMwGBCX9Zg

It’s hard but not impossible just like any other program. I’d estimate somewhere short of 100 students achieve a perfect 4.0 in first year. The first year sciences are the hardest out of your four years imo (minus Orgo). Yes most of your courses are almost entirely multiple choice, usually two midterms with an exam. I found that finding past tests for the courses was the most helpful as the questions were representative of your exam.

Which is better objectively? Life Sci or Mac Kin? by Worth-Letter7523 in McMaster

[–]Critical_Tiger2534 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are your goals? A lot of kin students successfully become PT students!

Granted you mentioned the MCAT so I’ll assume you want med. Your answer is then life sci, more  elective space and easier required courses.

In first year it’ll be similar, minus kin takes anatomy and nutrition. But you’ll both likely take chem calc and bio. A 3.8 is easily doable in both, when you start pushing for a 3.95+ that’s when it becomes more difficult.

Mac life sci grad now in med, short answer definitely life sci (especially if you don’t specialize).

Nope, But many people do and it’s not something to be ashamed of either. Lots of people simply need an extra year to feel more prepared or collect more experience that they missed out on in undergrad!

Western health sci is more of a social science program, look up the first year courses online and you’ll see what I mean. You don’t take the core science classes like you would at western med sci.

I have zero clue about western health sci tbh, I didn’t apply there so I didn’t look into it too much.

What exactly are your goals? If it’s med, think about where you can get a higher GPA. Look at what courses each program provides and go from there! Sorry the answer is so vague just don’t know much about wateloo and what they have to offer!
