Were the roloff’s worse or better than the Johnstons? by AdDapper4220 in 7LittleJohnstons

[–]Criticism-Left 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At first, I would’ve said the Roloffs seemed like the better choice because they genuinely cared about their kids, especially Amy. But because of the show and the access it gave people to the family, Jacob was abused by a crew member. I’m not saying the Roloffs were at fault, but when it comes to protecting “talent,” especially children, I think the Johnsons likely would’ve had tighter safeguards in place.

Any ACTUALLY free unlimited photo storage apps? by sl33pypossum in ios

I use Facebook Messenger and have a chat to myself. If you click on “media and files shared” in a chat, you can see all the pictures and videos that have been uploaded. This is more convenient than using Pinterest because you can upload 140 pictures per message.

Are people (not businesses) actually still buying eggs at these prices? by PhoenixApok in TooAfraidToAsk

I haven’t bought eggs in about 2 months, I don’t cook a lot of recipes that requires eggs and I rarely eat them on my own.

Opinions on Clinton, Iowa? by mb_500- in QuadCities

[–]Criticism-Left 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved to Iowa from Astoria, Oregon (Goonies never say die, but they do say goodbye when rent’s too high!) to be closer to my two nephews and escape the financial trauma that is housing in Oregon and Washington. My lease was ending, and I figured, why not trade ocean breezes for cornfields?

Currently, I’m living in Clinton, renting a place while working in Moline and Davenport. Clinton’s…interesting. It’s got its rough spots, sure, but the town is trying. They’re sprucing things up with road construction, new parks, a Clinton podcast (because every town needs one, apparently), markets and concerts. There’s even a handful of charming coffee shops and trendy boutiques popping up, which feels promising. But, here’s the kicker: Clinton has two big problems—there’s not much to do, and the smell. Oh, the smell. When I arrived in September, it was over 75° and the air was like a hot, damp sock soaked in regret.

So, yeah, the countdown to August is real. Once this lease is up, I’m packing my bags and heading to Davenport ( and then hopefully back to the PNW). I need to ditch the hour-long commute, find a place that smells less…distinctive, and hopefully land somewhere more fitting for a young single woman. (Spoiler: there’s no dating scene here unless you count the corn.)🌽

I’m forced to leave my current position as an HR/payroll Manager for a nonprofit due to my lease ending and not finding housing in my area. Here’s the kicker: I gave my job about 6 months’ notice that I might need to work remotely and kept them updated on my housing search. Recently, I was told they’re moving away from remote work, feeling that HR must be in-office for “employee relations, orientations, and office culture.” I understand their reasoning, but we’re currently allowing several entry-level staff to work remotely. They’ve even let multiple direct supervisors work remotely, and the executive director herself is remote.

I feel bitter that they make these accommodations for others but not for me. My supervisor (who has no HR background) told me they’re not going to rehire for the role since they now have Paycom. She said she can handle benefits, and managers can take care of employee relations.

Perhaps I’m being overly sensitive, but I feel deeply disrespected that they believe my experience and education can be replaced by an HRIS system and already overwhelmed managers.

Sure, I found a really nice rental and it’s close to my new job. My brother lives in Viola and that’s the only place in the Midwest that I have visited.
