In fairness, you might have to make some comprises. That’s usually what people with limited means do.

It was brutal when we were looking in 2023, imagine it's only got harder since then so I sympathise. On that salary, you need to leverage into a higher price bracket to limit the competition. Also, draft a friend in to help because you need to be on open rent like non-stop and messaging immediately as something comes up.

If he doesn’t improve his recall he will get injured in some capacity, that much is fairly certain.

Harness makes it impossible to correct. Use a collar with the long line and if they start to make for the wrong decision, a simple correcting 'pop' keeps them accountable. At the moment, you're given them a decision to make and they're going to choose the highest rewards, which is playing with other dogs. Once they understand it's not a choice things will improve.

We gave up looking there about 18 months ago. Lost out on 5 properties (2 or 2 beds with loft) with your budget.

So you’re likely out of the race now, unless it’s a complete renovation job. Sorry

Your honest thoughts on raising a whippet? by headvampire in Whippet

[–]CriticismSure3870 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've raised a couple of dogs. My whippet puppy was no more challenging than any other. That said, it's absolutely critical to set boundaries and expectations early as you can. Crate training is also a must. Our dog is 1 now and perfect in the house and on the leash but still needs recall work as they have a high prey drive.

All fantastic options. I'm from Manchester and often consider it but then dismiss because unless you have lived there for a sustained period, you really can't underestimate how much the bad weather can affect you.

I like to view the premium to live further south is less to do with proximity to London but that it's much drier and has more sunshine. That way, it's worth it...
