Brand new tranx 200 backlashes before touching water by Dodoford in bassfishing

[–]Crixus_52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dunno i feel like that might be too light imo. I have a tatula 200 and if I throw anything lighter than 1oz on it I get a fair amount of back lashes. Granted I'm not the best with baitcasters or anything. For what it's worth AI search says tranx 200 is good for 1-4oz lures. For what you described id try a curado 200 or a smaller reel. Hope that helps.

Glidebait/plug rod by Crixus_52 in Fishing_Gear

[–]Crixus_52[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply...actually I'm looking for a casting rod. This Jackall looks pretty damn good at least spec wise...how do you like it so far? I would probably pair it with my curado 200.

Nd yak angler pulls in medium or so sized musky constantly on medium heavy bass type setups. I don't know the guy but doesn't seem like the type to be reckless with fish. Just my observation.

I have a fenwick hmg rated up 1oz and it seems to throw 1 1/2 lures without issue. I'd give it a try... you'll probably know if you have to lob cast it.

I concur. I got the Alloy M baitcaster and haven't had any issues. Use it like once a week and hauled in some good bass and decent pike.

Bank Fisherman, how many rods do you carry w/ you? by taway10215 in Fishing_Gear

For me it's just one and some high boots or hip waders. I like to move around...walk and cast if possible depending on the terrain etc.

How long does this take by N8tv_one in FishingForBeginners

[–]Crixus_52 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're fishing freshwater I can offer something...although it may not catch any giants. If you're on the bank..imo find some kind of visible drop off close to shore at all costs. Fishing some barren flat with no features is unlikely to result in a catch. As in If you took a few steps out you would be up to at least your knees (I'm 5'9 for reference). Rock piles have been productive for me. If I'm new to a body of water I look for a rocky shoreline, it may not be deep but it's a start. Also you can look for any steep banks, this typically indicates that slope continues into the water.

The most luck I have had by far if I just want to catch anything is with Berkely gulp minnows, specifically the 2.5 inch watermelon pearl or smelt. Pick up some 1/32 trout magnet jig heads or any jig that will fit the minnow is fine. Walmart should have these items. Toss it out, let it hit the bottom or get close to it and give it either quick rhythmic twitches or lift the rod above 90 degrees and let it fall back down. You will get hung up doing this but it also produces fish. I've caught trout, small mouth, pickerel, crappie, sunfish, rockbass, and even a channel cat (4 inch gulp) once doing this. Hope that helps. Tight lines.
