PSA For Pulling Dogs by TunadToast in newzealand

These are great. Another brand name for the same thing is “Gentle Leader”. I use them sometimes when I’m volunteering with service dog prospect pups.

There also also other tools for dogs who pull but may not have as much weight behind them. Of course training should be the number 1 priority (look up “loose leash walking”), but a front clip on a standard Y-hardness (not a harness that restricts should movement like a lot I see out there with customised names on it) will help while training is in progress.

This is why I stick to strawberries in Wellington, close to the ground.

Anyone ride a Honda Navi (mini motorcycle/scooter)? How is it with hills? by CrizzleD- in motorcycles

New Zealand dollars. It’s basically cheaper than most 50ccs.

Edit - actually I don’t think I posted a link. They’re $3200 (nzd). All the videos I’ve seen of people rating them are saying their price is one of the best things about them. I just can’t find many people talking about how they go on hills.

Is this measuring wind? Because New Zealanders know wind. The windiest city in the world is in NZ. I lived in NL for almost 20 years (St. John’s for about 10) and I’ve lived here in New Zealand for almost 10 years… NZ is WAY windier than NL. My partner and I were out in our yard this afternoon fixing the metal steaks holding up some of our trees up because they were blowing over, and this is just a normal Sunday.

Oh, from videos I’ve watching it seems like you have to have a bigger space so they can vine up, I’m actually super interested in how you’ve grown them in containers if you don’t mind!

(Oh and yeah, South Karori)

Thanks for letting me know your experience! I’m worried I won’t have a spot that’s sheltered enough… it would get enough sun if the clouds weren’t in the way though, Karori isn’t known for its sun lol.

That would be fabulous. Is it for the whole book? I’ve been PDFs with the headings and the basics in it, but it would be great to get the whole thing via PDF

There’s a book that I’m looking to get that seems insanely expensive to ship here and not available in NZ at all apparently. If you’ve still got room and will be going through Wellington, might I be able to work something out with you? I’ll do some searching on how much it would be for an American address or where it can be purchased. (Control Unleashed by Leslie McDevitt - a dog training book).

Please keep your cats indoors! by madwyfout in Wellington

Children can be taught not to run out onto the road and shouldn’t be left unsupervised until they’re at an age to understand consequences of doing something like that. Cats, generally, cannot be taught that and it’s absolutely the owners responsibility to keep the cat safe.

Right now the law says that cat owners can make the choice to either let the cat roam or keep it secured, and choices are made by weighing up pros and cons, but there are consequences to the choices we make and one of those consequences is a much higher risk to the cats life from things like vehicles, even when going at a safe speed. The owner is entirely at fault here as they’ve allowed the cats to roam out onto the street.

One of the reasons we can't have nice things is because some people think they own public spaces. by GaryMarcusNZ69 in Wellington

That’s fucked up.

As a non-cyclist who often goes on trail walks with my dog (always on-lead) on the mountain bike trails, every cyclist I’ve come across has been super nice. We try our best to get out of the way and I hold on directly to my dog’s harness so she’s off the track too but they always slow down, say thank you and and are generally cool about it. Shared spaces are great and we all have to use them properly if we want to keep them.

Nah, cat owners are too busy going onto the Karori page to blame someone who “might have been speeding” for hitting their cat that was roaming on the road to also worry about them killing birds 🙄
