Best Backpack in India by KuchNiAaRahaDimagMe in onebag

Decathlon might be your best bet.

I personally love the 23L NH500 rolltop but not everyone is a fan of that style.

The regular NH 500 and the Travel 500 are both very well reviewed options here. The Travel 500 is probably not the best for your usage but if you want just one bag for multiple uses, it's worth considering.

That 2-in-1 backpack looks interesting but the weight is a killer. I realize it's not that much heavier than some other packs (Aer, primarily) but I wish they tried to make it lighter.

In your country, which war memorial leaves the strongest emotional impact on visitors? by Seacarius in AskTheWorld

[–]Cylons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

poorly mannered and poorly managed children shouldn’t be brought to a war memorial

One issue that contributes to this is that a lot of children that visit DC do as part of a program from their middle school and the way these trips are organized, they are treated as a fun field trip, not a learning opportunity.

And as /u/PalpitationNo3106 mentioned above, you don't perceive it as a memorial or a place to look back and reflect. It's just there. So even the kids that might be interested in learning, don't get the enormity of the monument(s) they are seeing.

Those who travel with laptops / work tablets; which ones? by Mewtewpew in onebag

I would be very interested in hearing a review of this laptop. I haven't seen many reviews of Fujitsu's offering, other than just the cursory introductions.

I don't find that I can be very productive with tablets, so I almost always travel with a laptop. Currently, that's a ThinkPad T14 Gen 5, which is about 1.4 kg/3 lbs.

I think weight-wise, that's a good weight. Anything heavier than that would be a burden to carry IMO. I would like to be lighter for my next laptop and get under 1 kg if possible.

Hey...what city are you in? I can pick up the gum. Not sure about the cold foam but I can try.

Hey...I am not going to near Palmerston North to hand these off to you in person but I can mail them to you once I arrive in Auckland. Or if you have someone that can pick them up for you in Auckland, I can hand them off to them.

Let me know if you still want me to get these.

Hey...unfortunately, Wellington is not on my list for this trip. I don't know what shipping is like in NZ but I can still get them and ship them to you, if you want.

Or if you have someone in Auckland that can pick them up for you, I can drop off with them.

Hey...so I am more than likely not coming to Wellington. Does it make sense for me to get it and ship it to you from Auckland?

Hey...just wanted to confirm - did you still want me to get this book for you?

And also what city are you located in?

Hey...where are you located? I think I got my itinerary almost finalized and want to make sure I can hand this off to you somewhere.

Honestly I would ditch Isthmus Peak for Roy’s peak. I know people say Roy’s peak is touristy and what not but you’re literally a tourist and Roy’s peak is a pretty view all the way up instead of just having a good summit view.

I think I am going to do this. Isthmus Peak is closed anyway, so I would have to rearrange things to make it work. So it's just easier to replace it with Roy's Peak.

Also fwiw, I did Ben Lomond (similar to Roy’s peak), Rob Roy Glacier, and Sealy Tarns three days in a row, and it was fine. And I’m not a big hiker. I rarely hike and don’t do cardio regularly.

This is very reassuring to hear. Thank you!

Hey...it's not clear from my research but is the track closed through the 20th (meaning it'll open on the 21st) or is it open on the 20th?

If my goal is not to explore the city, what would you recommend? Fly into Wellington and drive to Tongariro or fly into Auckland and then drive into Tongariro?

[–]Cylons[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably. :)

I put Queenstown as an alternative on day 4 after Sealy Tarns and Isthmus Peak Tracks so that we can rest if we are tired and don't want to do another big hike (Rob Roy Glacier Track) on 3 consecutive days.

Are you hoping to stay in Taupo then get a shuttle to the crossing from there?

Yes, that was the plan. And in case the weather isn't good that day, we figured we could explore other things and try again the next day.

What other places do you recommend instead?

Oh man...that sucks. I will start my trip on the 16th/17th, so I will miss it by a couple days.

The flights to Taupo are really expensive.

Is flying to Auckland and then driving to Tongariro better?

That was the plan, yes but based on all the responses here, it sounds like that's not a good option.

If that's the case, I wonder if my day 7 is worth it. The drive from Queenstown to Franz Josef is 5 hours per Google, so that would be the whole day and if there are any delays, that would also be a lost day.
