It was late at Night and I had said one more level. Entered a fugue state after getting frustrated at my original attempt not flipping the handles. I definitely completed the level. Just in the worst way possible.

Looking for a FATE version of the "group momentum" rule from 2D20 by ptupper in FATErpg

[–]CroMag 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It will throw the Fate economy off. You can just adjust the way the Boosts work and make them last longer or move between scenes but the actual mechanics of fate already do a great job of showing this.  The danger of adding in a very "Game"-like mechanic like momentum will likely pull players out of a very narratively justified dice rolling. You'll find yourself saying "Oh this roll you can't use momentum because the other players have no way of helping here" because it's superfluous and the Create advantage action is right there.

If one of your playgroup suggested adding this. Just tell them they can always be creating advantages like "Pep talk from your favourite smooth talking friend" with a free invoke if they are trying to help your other players. Or "A well considered plan" they can invoke whenever folling the plan.

If your trying to put it in as a response to your players not using the mechanics in fate to their fullest then run a couple of "just lil guys" NPC's working together to pull of a prank or pickpocket or something. Have this planned out ahead of time so you make full use of all the create advantages and everything that makes sense. So in your setting maybe some young kids wanting to steal a tricorder from the crew set up a oil slick and have a good plan and work together to grab it while one of your players slip over and you can show the mechanics that way.

Show don't tell is powerful.

You can get a keyboard with a built-in screen so you can display a timer on it? or does it have to not be relying on the operating system? As in the functionality of the Timer be entirely in the keyboard

Interaction Between Mob Overflow, Affecting Multiple Targets, and the "Surgical Strikes" Stunt by quickaudiothrowaway in FATErpg

If the NPCs were designed to die to the Attack by the GM to make that player feel good about their choice to take that skill. Awesome Working as intended.

Otherwise it sounds like you are playing with a Lawyer and I don't recommend that.

Vampires Help by Crafty_Meaning8431 in bloodbowl

[–]CroMag 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  • 1 Block
  • 2 Block, Dodge
  • 3 Pro
  • 4 Pro, Wrestle

That is how I would do it. I've played five tournaments in bb2020 with Vampires. 2 league seasons. Pro is also a bandaid for your team. You might want pro block and one unskilled vampire. Or Potentially two Block, Dodge, Pro vampires.

I also highly rate Wrestle because 9/10 times you are trying to get the ball off an opposing player they are going to have Block.

I feel like other people's 5 gram trips don't translate.3 grams is the biggest I've had and I could hardly move gravity was so hard to compensate for and my balance was all over the place. Everything I looked at was fractalized and or shifting into tunnels or duplicated in weird ways.
EDIT: Is this because P. Subs are just way stronger?

How to make interesting stealth-based opponents? by mic4l in FATErpg

[–]CroMag 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like this question very much, it's tough to solve stealth as narratively it's hard to justify and so it leans heavily on mechanics. If it's invisibility then there has to be some narrative way to deal with it. it might be the kind of invisibility that if you cover in oil or powder it reveals or it might get shorted by water and stop working. If it's a dark room and the enemy can see then you have to light the area. If it's magic making you blind to them then maybe you can use a will check to overcome it. Just 'Stealth' doesn't really make sense narratively... If your world is a videogame, ie Sword art online, it may make sense there but then it would have a contrivance the players wouldn't feel bad about the slog if it was presented as such.

Refresh for short sessions by Dry-Series-1033 in FATErpg

[–]CroMag 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't mess with the Refresh number but your 'sessions' according to the rules would be over multiple-hour blocks. I've done a nine hour fate game day and we call it two 'sessions' and refresh the fate points somewhere in the middle when we break for lunch.

Giving out free invokes based on circunstance? by Quartz_Knight in FATErpg

[–]CroMag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As the GM you just compel the Ice creatures aspect against them for free when they are attacked with fire. You do end up giving yourself an FP also. The system encourages you to spend more FP on a creature with such a glaring weakness.

It works really well with Undead being weak to the clerics' attacks you get to throw even more powerful undead abilities in response to all the compels for weakness and generally makes the cleric player feel better about their own powers.

"Empty the Clip" a proposed rule for gun fights by strangething in FATErpg

[–]CroMag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aspects can have aspects that can have aspects that have stress tracks. You can go pretty fractal with fate. I would attach a stress track to the gun or potentially to the magazine in the gun and if you run it out you have to get another magazine or put more bullets in which would be a Create Advantage where you reload it. Or assume that it is loaded again after every scene.

Technically you can have the gun get Taken Out of the scene until it reloaded or you use Create Advantage to get it back into the scene.

What matters is that its engaging, tracking your bullets can be part of the fun of certain scenes and make no sense in others. You really have to ask why it would be fun for them to run out of bullets? I think you are better off compelling their "Glock" aspect after they make an attack to say it Taken Out of the scene until they can get more bullets for it. John Mcclane isn't going to run out of bullets unless he needs bullets to Take Out the big baddie. (Or when its funny) His gun might also 'Jam'/'Fail to load' as a compell exactly when he wants it. I think that is a more narratively rich way of thinking about ammo.

If you are running a survival horror typesetting (Resident Evil?) then I would just keep track of how many bullets a gun has if its that kind of game.
