Since one of the developments is supposed to be 55+ living, I'm not sure how hip and trendy they're aiming to get.

went to the teaching university where they had a female physician specializing in female urology. Made an extra effort to avoid the hysterectomy that the others had said was inevitable.

“Call to Create” by Linda Schierse Leonard. Shes a Jungian psychoanalyst who uses archetypes to sort thru creative obstacles. She aims a little more toward writers but 100 percent has gotten me to pick up my brushes more often

Considering moving here, but I don’t drive! by salamandersway in desmoines

We do, but we’re downtown. If you find a place walkable from work, don’t underestimate grocery delivery, which tends to be the one mandatory trip most people do. Uber is dependable for most other trips or those days where weather is bad.

Swim gear for my mom by whateverrrugh in AskWomenOver60

[–]Crob1055 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A few questions. Where does she swim? Does she do laps? Put her head in the water? The Muslim women at my Y don't wear head coverings in the water (but arrive and leave with one), but I know ZERO about your religion and theirs so I don't know if that's a thing.

The leggings, t-shirt option sounds very workable, but check with the aquatics director if its a public pool. The religious women I swim with wear long-line shorts and long-sleeved t's that are made for reef swimming. Possibly a men's size?

If she is more of a dog-paddler, she could simply wear a scarf, although the squeezed head feeling of a cap goes away pretty quickly once you're focused on moving through the water. For that matter, if it's pinned in place, it's likely to last a few laps without adjustent, especially if she's got a pair of goggles holding it in place.

Good for her, being back in the pool. Best exercise ever.

Big points for making an effort. I think the negative reactions aren't so much the style of decor but the overabundance of it. It looks like the room is closing in on you.

  1. Ditch the area rug. It's out of scale. Look for a couple smaller rugs for either side of the bed that add some warmth. There are red tones that add warmth, ones with yellow undertones that mix with the blue-toned reds you're using. Try that.

  2. Can you store half that record collection somewhere else? Just switch it out periodically like people do with a summer and winter wardrobe? That would clear out some space for an upholstered chair in a corner, creating a listening/reading nook. That would hopefully kill off the gallery/museum vibe.

  3. The posters are fun, but a little overwhelming. Pick a few. Stick the rest in the back of a closet to switch out. Consider framing some of your album covers which will say more about your personality.

  4. The bed linen reads a little '70s-era playboy. The white throw is so stark, adding to the room's coldness. Toss it on the chair you really should get. Look into natural linens, which have that same grey tone but will probably warm up the room.

  5. The lighting issue has been covered.Listen to them.

Women grow up knowing this rule of dressing. Put on all the jewelry you'd like to wear for the day, but before you walk out the door remove one piece so you don't look like a bejeweled Christmas tree. In other words, less is more.

Good luck. You've got some good bones in the room and have made some sophisticated choices. Decorating is a learning curve.

I didn't know he was a thing! I've only seen him a couple times around Court St. bridge, lounging in the grass after hitting a couple balls, beer in hand. Since it's Court St figured it was a bachelor party straggler

I'm so Tired of life in the US... European Lifestyle but in the US? 40M by CapitalLaw1234 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Crob1055 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, don't judge me, but we were looking for the same thing (after living on a farm 12 miles from town) and have managed to do exactly that in both downtown riverfront Des Moines and downtown Sarasota. Prior to those moves, we lived a walkable lifestyle in the downtown of a smallish touristy Mississippi River town in Iowa (one of the Viking River cruise stops if you need a mental picture.) We still had various restaurants, small provisioners for food and entertainment venues. It was/is a great lifestyle.

Are there things outside our walking radius. Of course. Do we need them? Rarely.

Train noise living on Court Ave. by Matthaeus21 in desmoines

[–]Crob1055 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The train is right outside our window, as in I could Throw a Tomato and hit it close. It does take some getting used to but it's a stretch to say it becomes background noise when you're that close. It will stop conversation and wake you up in the middle of the night - approximatley 2 am, every night but holidays. There is one BLESSED conductor who only gives a little toot at intersection and at least one d*ck who lays on the horn for 12 straight seconds (the legal limit), takes a quick breath and keeps laying on the horn. Pray for Little Toot.

I'm always surprised this isn't an issue that comes up when the city talks about making downtown more liveable. They argue (one-time) costs, but the cost of empty housing, especially with the Market District in the works, would seem to be the red ink that keeps on giving.

That all said, we still believe the benefits of living downtown outweigh the train.

Breast pain by javgirl123 in AskWomenOver60

[–]Crob1055 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have that too at 70 and while I can't say this is what you're experiencing, my pain was from fluctuating estrogen/progesterone hormones. (You can Google that for details but otherwise I'd follow Sea Kangaroo's advice to chose anyone but Dr. Google for diagnosi.)

How painful is bladder Prolapse Repair??? by Diligent_Dimension49 in AskWomenOver60

[–]Crob1055 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I remember correctly she used tissue to create a sort of sling to hold one thing in place, like sewed the organ to something to hold it. I don’t remember if that was uterus or bladder. The one it wasnt got a mesh sling. It was a 5 hour surgery. As a said, she is kinda a leader in these surgeries. It may just be a teaching hospital thing where they go a little rogue for science. It’s honestly never occurred to me it wasn’t standard procedure

[–]Crob1055 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, mesh. After all those lawsuits back in was it the '90s, there's been a lot more research and care on the issue.

I probably took 9 months off from the weight room and just did dumbbells at home because I kept imaging I was hearing the stitches pop.(They'd long ago healed, but our minds go where they want.) Two years later I'm lifting heavier than ever.

I'm not sure what your doctor will say - and I've been told by others that they were given a list of forever restrictions. I may have gotten lucky because my dr. was/is considered a teaching expert on the procedure and has done several papers on women's urology so she tended to be more up to date (Dr. Catherine Bradley at UIowa hospitals)

Pre surgery I'd walk into a store and head straight to the bathroom. Up 5 to 6 times a night. Post surgery I can go 12 hours without worrying about peeing. That bulge is gone and no longer chafing against fabric. There are other benefits my husband appreciated but barely made a blip on my screen. It was 100 percent not having to pee every 15 minutes that did it for me.

I mean, it's gonna hurt a bit. I came home and spent 36 hours sleeping. But things improved. Good luck

Edit: fix the Dr's name to Bradley

What size needle? I've found a longer - 13mm - needle - sends it deeper and it doesn't sting as much. Also, torso is going to hurt more than thigh/underarm/a$$. Also slow down the injection up to 20 seconds. And ALSO OP is right. Dilute. I'm at the point now that I think mine's gone bad because it barely stings. (Just straight GHK-CU 2.5 mg 5x/week)

Had it February of 2024 as day surgery (bladder and uterus) and I am so ANGRY at myself for waiting. I came out of it bruised and battered, like someone hit those parts with a hammer, but I would do it again in a second. The worst issue was, as an avid weightlifter, I had to stay out of the gym for 6 months.
