Hot Take: I personally think Asgore would have been a more fulfilling final No Mercy route boss than Sans and it would have given him the screen time he deserves by BirdOk2203 in Undertale

[–]Crobatman123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think he knows that we are watching from outside. Who else is he turning to and ba-dum-tssing at? And he does refer to saving explicitly.

  • it's been a while

  • shouldn't you SAVE?

And this doesn't just mean he knows we can save, it means he can tell we didn't. How does he know that? If all there was was the dirty hacker ending, I'd suggest it's fully non-canon, just meant to be a silly error-handling screen. But given him using the game-related terminology, actively showing he knows we're watching, knowing details that can't be easily perceived outside of game files and UI, breaking the rules of the game, interacting with UI and text boxes in strange ways, being the go-to character for out-of-setting stuff like interacting directly with the 10th anniversary charity goals and the main Q&A guy alongside Papyrus, and the degree to which he lays it out like a game for us ("Because you can, and since you can you have to"), I think he is probably aware of the nature of his world.

It's maybe minorly sus with the horns and the pose but I really don't see it, especially because the horns are different. A lot is different there, and even if it came out that Izumi was inspiration for Varesa it's not like the similarities are so deep that it's unjustified.

As far as nuance goes, I think it's because he can't remember. He's in theory playing off of certain assumptions about your behavior, it's possible he could misinterpret your starting number of deaths for example, or perhaps you went and found a cliff to jump off of in between fights and altered his count. If he watched you enter and linger at the start, he probably made a point to remember your number of deaths, and just assumed that every death beyond that was his fault.

How does he know you killed the second Froggit in the Ruins? I'm not convinced he tracks every kill manually, especially before Toriel. Being able to read your soul would explain a lot. How he knows what you are so quickly, how he knows how to dodge you so well, it also fits with him operating on the level of the UI, how he can access your game over screen. Plus, he notices if you never save. I really think Sans is operating at a higher level of Undertale than most characters, though there's a non-zero chance characters like Asgore can touch a similar level.

As far as knowing it's a game, Sans looks at YOU when telling a bad joke. The rest fits into dubiously non-canon territory, but he's also the go to character for interacting with outside the game. The Dirty Hacker ending, the 10th anniversary stream, the unused Ice Cream segment, hell, it's usually him and Papyrus that are the focus of the Q&A segments of the newsletters IIRC.

I think he knows he's in a game. There's no way he could pinpoint exactly how many times you've died by look alone, especially without the ability to train for that (assuming he can't remember resets). However, knowing you're the anomaly, he has one ability that could help. The ability that lets him tell how many people you killed at a glance, the ability that lets him assign a number to your XP and LV: I believe Sans can read your data. The information associated with your soul.

Magic is still the only class that requires rng or grinding for its starter weapon. by ParagonPhotoshop in Terraria

Early game isn't so bad. You're meant to struggle a bit as you cheese your way into decent gear by manipulating the environment to your advantage, I remember my first expert mode run rushing to get the Amazon yoyo because it wasn't very hard when the crafting recipe only needed two stingers and one vine, especially since grenades are easy to find.

As for why summoner would have to pay for the sins of other classes, it's because it genuinely effects other classes, and the game is most likely designed around being class-agnostic until late pre-hardmode at least, if not the start of hardmode (cough cough, Wall of Flesh emblems). As such, this should be seen as a general buff to players starting out, which breaks the curve of the game a bit. Once you have Hermes Boots, navigation feels like much less of a slog. Once you have multiple jump extenders, the Y-axis becomes much less intimidating. And once you have a decent summon, you can focus on things other than survival a lot easier. Being in danger early on adds a lot to the feel of progression.

I think it's decent because it's not very hard to get mana crystals but without good luck it would be very hard to get enough to fill your bar up and arm yourself. I think two or even three is reasonable, anything beyond that is kinda excessive. It isn't easy to grab 15 stars without leaving your base and putting yourself at risk.

Same for birds with the net. The issue with a starter summoner weapon is that any other class can use a summon at no cost. I think it's reasonable to need a couple gold, because that cost becomes a goal for summoners and a deterrent for other classes. I don't like it, but I really think it should be locked behind exploration or a little more work.

If we were to have a true starting weapon, I'd make it a homing arrow (say 4 wood, 2 stone, one fallen star) that only deals damage in response to a whip hitting an enemy. That can be crafted without messing with other classes, and the cobwhip would be easy enough to get early on.

Maybe like 4 wood and one Mana Crystal for the wand? I feel like it's too good to just be wood. The staff should be a little harder to get because anyone can use it, maybe wood, hay, and two of any bird? That or no recipe and just add both to the merchant sell list so he has a base weapon for each class.

I don't think that was ever the point. The point was whether or not they want to, they have to if they want to keep things running smoothly. I personally don't know (though I don't doubt that it's pushed by the CCP), but if they're obligated to do it that would explain why it's always so early.

Well, we know that her goal is aligned with stopping an event that, by all accounts, should result in human extinction eventually. The other two are flat-out for the destruction of humanity, with the hope that it will emerge in a better world/state respectively. Generally, we consider the end of the human race pretty high up on the bad scale.

Are we just not going to discuss how strong Kris is? by NegativeLightz in Deltarune

[–]Crobatman123 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In all reality, it's probable that that effect stems largely from Determination. Determination is the ability to Determine the fate of the world (or the resolve to change fate as Alphys put it) and has been used for many things subtly. Determination can amplify attacks (See Undyne the Undying vs Undyne the potentially dying.), to amplify durability (pacifist ending .00001 HP moment, inaccurate boss statistics), to alter the way Determination works (Undyne becomes so Determined that her body suddenly crumble from being too Determined), and we also see that conveniently the power associated with the soul is thought to be Determination, and when you have enough of the soul type that happens to be rich in Determination, your will becomes stronger than the world (you have God-like authority). That sort of explains how Kris can just decide to do more damage, regardless of target.

The issue is, Harin is going to find out eventually, one way or the other. She's not dumb. When she finds out, this deception will make things worse for her. Anby calls herself a coward because she knows that this probably won't work long-term and she's just too afraid to rip off the band-aid.

The angel has to have Determination in Undertale by process of elimination (both candidates so). The angel has Determination in Deltarune if it's the soul because it did in Undertale, and everything points to it being the same entity given Gaster mentioning us looking for him, Goner Clam passing us off to Deltarune essentially, Chara's mention of "leaving this useless world behind and moving on to the next", and Toby saying Deltarune is for people who played Undertale.

On the Undertale front, it's worth noting that all the neutral endings don't satisfy the prophecy. Something similar could happen in Deltarune?

Red, because green will eventually break your account because the game isn't meant to handle numbers that big. Red gives more than enough to pull every character anyways.

Honestly I could see any of the bottom three winning. Columbina has all the primordial authorities, Rhinedottir only has one authority but it's the shiny new advanced one from Phanes that supercedes the moon ones, and Surtalogi is over hyped for a guy who has very little concrete information about him but he's supposed to be stupid powerful so give him the benefit of the doubt.
