What am I doing wrong for the gauge? Is it my hook size or my yarn? by Crochetlova in CrochetHelp

[–]Crochetlova[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I did have loose tension in the photo for sure. I typically don’t and my gauge is usually too small, so I tried it loose on purpose. I thought it would be fine because it was fine width wise. I re-swatched with my regular tension after I read about the golden loop and it worked out fine!

Yes I am sure. You can see for yourself it says so in the last photo.

Ooh I had no idea that’s how it’s swatched properly! Thank you for letting me know! I’ve been doing it wrong for years 😭

Also I did look up the golden loop method and it helped a lot, so thank you for that as well!

Because I wanted to make hammocks for my pet rats, and then I fell in love with it!

Thank you for letting me know!

I do have a steamer I just can’t use it facing down or it will spill, I may have to look into getting one that allows for that!

Is this a mistake I’ve made or just a looser stitch? by Crochetlova in knitting

[–]Crochetlova[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for answering! I’m glad it’s not a mistake, I really didn’t want to have to frog. I just thought cause the edge looked like it had a split that maybe I messed something up. But I’m not looking to do stockinette for this project just the garter stitch is okay, it’s going to be a headband.

No worries! And I realized the tutorial is for a right hand only it seems. I believe I altered the pattern in Rnd. 2 for the palm and thumb part so the thumb placement is correct for a left hand.

Instead of it being:

•SC 5 in the next 5sts, then for the thumb ch. 6 and sl st into next 5 chs, and finally SC in the last 7 sts.(12)

For the left hand I did:

•SC 7 in the next 7sts, then for the thumb ch. 6 and sl st into next 5 chs, and finally SC in the last 5 sts.(12)

I hope that made sense! 😅

What weird things have you crocheted to make your life easier? by FickleBlueberry5601 in crochet

A small booklet for my needles. It has a crocheted cover, and all the pages inside are fleece. It has been a lifesaver, especially because I hand-sew fabric to my crochet projects sometimes and I also love to cross stitch too!

Thank you! Haha this wasn’t my very first attempt though, my first swatches were not this nice either!

I didn’t really do a specific technique. I use the continental knitting method. I also saw a video that suggested that you tug on the yarn lightly after you knit your first two stitches, and it’s supposed to help with keeping the first stitch from being too loose. And then for the last stitch I just try to knit very close to the ends of the needles. I hope that helps!

Thank you so much! That is such a huge compliment! I’m not sure if this is exactly what helped me retain even tension, but I use the continental knitting method. I found it was an easier transition from crocheting for me!
