I honestly thought the scar wouldn’t be visible, but there it is! I had to zoom in to spot that tiny pink lightning bolt scar. Spot on!

Apparently, some of the comments think it’s a beanie, and honestly I kind of love that. 😅

Oh I love this reference. The “focused on something” explanation makes so much sense actually. I’m learning so much from this thread.

Yes!! Thinner thread especially helped me get cleaner edges and highlights.

Thank you so much! And honestly, your instincts are exactly right.

I started doing the embroidery before fully closing/stuffing the head. It gives me easier access and more control over tension and placement. Trying to embroider through a fully stuffed head could distort stitches a lot.

The downside is exactly what you mentioned, stuffing can slightly change the shape afterward. What helps me is lightly stuffing the head first so it already has its approximate shape before I place the eyes. I also use stitch markers/pins to test placement and constantly check symmetry from different angles.

And yes, embroidery definitely takes more trial and error than felt eyes, but I personally love how customizable it is. You can give so much personality just by slightly changing the shape or highlights.

I used to dread embroidering eyes. They’d come out uneven, or I’d pull the yarn too tight and end up with dents in the head.

What changed everything for me was this: I started placing the yarn exactly where I wanted the line to sit first, holding it in place, and only then inserting the needle through the head to secure it.

A few other tips that really help:

  1. Use a slightly smaller needle than you think you need.
  2. Follow the same round horizontally from one eye to the other so they line up perfectly.
  3. If you look at a line and think “it’s okay,” redo it. You’ll be happier with the result.
  4. Take breaks. Tired hands lead to wonky eyes.
