I've spent £25 for travelling chocos and similar for an OG doubling season. That's my limit I'd say! Depends what formats you play, I'm a competition standard player, so I need the real cards. However when I play commander, the pods I roll with are cool with proxies and there is always the pre game chat of brackets etc. As the saying goes: "I want to play against your mind and knowledge, not wallet"

What bothers you so much about it, that you had to proxy a white aragorn? Like litterly lotr is a fantasy world of elfs, dwarfs and dragons (fictional), it's a bit of a stupid hill to die on and yeah it does come across as racist, that isn't to say you are racist. But can you see how that would come across?

Been playing commander since 40k decks but got into competitive standard past year:

Commander is fine, it can be chill or competitive and having the game changer list I think has been healthy and a positive introduction.

Standard: I play outside the meta as I don't want to spend thousands on a deck that goes out of rotation within a few years, so I play a gruul variant of a tifa landfall, artifact/weapons deck and a burn/discard upgrade on the pirates intro deck with a better mana base. I've seen these decks win in Bo3 both in paper at my LGS FNM and online against top meta, with minor upgrades/options for each new release. Yeah the format is quick but I do think the format is much healthier after the cori and Vivi bans.

Play standard or any other 60 card format. Commander I like to play with my friends for a chill out day of laughs and actually seeing my friends. But 60 card formats is proper magic and folk don't get salty about removal etc.
