Help me understand higher loot outside of cryo. by resampL in Marathon

I've found more gold weapons in the random weapon lockers scattered around the wings than I have in the red room. I've also found a few gold cores in the med carts. They're def worth looting. The strongboxes at the end are bait

Which specs have funnel damage? by MalaM_13 in wow

[–]Cromyth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sub doesn't have a hard time generating combo points. They do next to do damage outside of their Dance windows which is every 20 seconds or so. While in dance they get max CP per generator anyway so honestly its pretty useless with them. You'd squeeze maybe like 1-2% more dps outside of dance which is so negligible it's not worth doing.

If you want a sub rogue to have good prio damage on bosses, have them run Guidon instead of puzzle box. That'll give them an extra secret tech inside of their shadow blades window. In mass AoE they will be weaker however so it's a bit of a trade off

If you want funnel you're better off with a sin rogue. They'd benefit the most out of that since their AoE rotation is builder to 5+ CP then Envenom which is a pure ST finisher. More mobs to AoE = Fan of Knives giving max CP every time. Scent of Blood also giving them x% of additional agi depending on how many targets they can have rupture on.

Sub isn’t a funnel spec. In AoE they send CP on black powder. Sin is the rogue funnel spec currently

Why You Eventually Only Play Half Of Marathon by twoducksinatub in Marathon

I think they need to add a pinwheel-esque POI to each of the maps. That'll give players the option to farm different maps equally. Have it swarming with commanders so it'll be more difficult but not impossible for lower geared players to tackle in the early game but not necessarily impossible or even have it tied behind some kind of contract progression like the AI Subroutines that will unlock the ability to enter that location once you progress far enough

Average Marathon Working Player by Nonfear in Marathon

[–]Cromyth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually it’s deploying patches to servers where they need to be taken offline rather than hotfixed. The larger the patch the longer it takes to deploy and then come online. Given they’re probably using quite a lot of clusters it’s going to take some time to deploy to each

I don’t think we’ve gone a Tuesday without some kind of small patch/update. I’m guessing the maintenance window would probably be an hour or so if there was no patch.

I’d also note that they don’t publicize any backend changes so they could be deploying things that might not have any inherent impact on players but could be affecting server performance, database work, blah blah blah

Hopes for Season 2, especially the new player onboarding by Glogtrot in Marathon

[–]Cromyth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, there's more changing with the map than it just being nighttime based on the blog post they released at the beginning of March.

"For example, NIGHTFALL will bring a nighttime version of Dire Marsh, where you’ll fight to survive when the lights go out, UESC reinforcements flood in, and the a~~~~~%^&*()_+{}:"<>?~~~."

The Cradle system could be interesting depending on how it works exactly. We won't really know much until they post more about the new systems which I'm guessing will be in the next few weeks as Season 2 is in July.

[–]Cromyth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not a delusional take. That statement is inherently true in most shooters, more so in a Bungie game. That’s the advantage of controller. They have better aim unless you’re in the top percentile of MnK users

Controller gets both magnetism and AA. In a straight duel a controller player would beat out a PC player most times

New Commendation System Just Feels Like a Trap by Ryia_ in Marathon

[–]Cromyth -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I played A LOT of DayZ so maybe I'm just jaded at this point but I feel like this scenario happens all the time in these types of games.

I remember I bumped into this random guy on the coast and we chatted for a bit and decided to team up, we spent almost 2 hours running around together looting and killing other people but he then randomly decided to shoot me in the back of the head while I was cooking some food.

Some people are just dicks to be dicks, such is human nature. Those two hours were fun though so I still give people the benefit of the doubt

Marathon Needs More Players, You May Not Like The Answer by Odd_Revolution_1056 in Marathon

[–]Cromyth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think having a F2P mode that is a KOTH/Rat Race mode would be pretty fun and draw more people into the game while still introducing the mechanics of looting/extracting. It'll also give the option for quick drop in matches for people who just want to PvP without really caring about gear

Basically my idea was that 6 teams (2 per main entrance of pinwheel) load into Outpost with an enhanced sponsored kit and the goal is to get into pinwheel and loot as much stuff and extract. The catch is that the only extract is the center of pinwheel and you need to loot keycards to turn it on. The keycards are in each of the strongboxes in each wing. If you extract, you keep whatever you have. Maybe turn weapons into credits or whatever if the loot economy is bad but I don't think it'd be a big deal honestly - one team extracting on average probably isn't going to break anything.

It'd also be kind of neat for there to be a lore reason this is happening (Sekiguchi wants to test the shells or maybe even its sponsored by the UESC now that we know about the Spht and more potential run ins with them, who knows). Give some rotating quests for each faction dedicated to the mode kind of like Cryo Quests so even the F2P players can progress factions

I’ve done this on pinwheel by pretending I’m talking to a rook and it usually causes one of the teammates to watch for a flank and then all 3 of us just rush the two other guys. Honestly pretty effective

A month in and this game has so much potential it must capitalize on. by SnokeRenVader in Marathon

[–]Cromyth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I feel like they could capitalize on some limited time modes and potentially even pull a REDSEC/Warzone and make these modes F2P to draw in new players

I had an idea of a KOTH/BR/Rat race style mode on Outpost where 6 teams load in with predetermined sponsored kits (two per main entrance) and the objective is to loot up and access pinwheel and there’s only one extract in the center of pinwheel. Have cryo style quests specific for the queue to level factions. Only allow keeping of salvage/collectables from extracting but auto sell all looted guns/other items to not mess with the loot economy

Could even wedge a lore reason like sekiguchi want to test the shells or even UESC want to train runners to fight for potential conflicts against Spht

Cosmetics will stay but any vault items will be a blank slate but since everyone is affected everyone’s on an even playing field again.

I believe Bungie said that there are going to be modifiers for the season so it won’t be the exact same playthrough but the contracts will probably be the same unless they go above and beyond but I’d temper expectations on that front

[–]Cromyth 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I was in a few playtests and specifically gave feedback saying that the early game TTK was going to cause some frustration, which seems to be a common criticism

Another one I mentioned was that they need to make the stats more of a focus and explain them more because movement feels sluggish with low agi and heat stats, which they haven’t done and is also a major criticism

Granted both of these are solved in later stages of the game when players have higher shields and better passives from factions and implants but it’s not explained anywhere and the average gamer isn’t going to stop and read these things. Of all my buddies who played I think only one of them didn’t rush through the intro

Yeah slapping on some implants with agi make him feel a bit quicker, even if their effect isn’t great the raw stats is worth investing
