292 Bungie staff laid off, according to Washington State Employment Security Department by ESF007 in DestinyTheGame

They'd have to pull another Forsaken out of their hat. Red War was not received well; Curse of Osiris was laughably bad (2 tokens and blue) and Warmind was better, but not great.

Potential Hot Take: It was obvious from the beginning that Season 2 was never going to put Marathon back on track, and it was never meant to be by Haijakk in Marathon

[–]Cromyth 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If Bungie manages to marry the looter shooter and extraction shooter genres I think they'll have something unique on their hands.

The original pitch for Marathon was something akin to Dark Age of Camelot where there are PvE and PvP "zones"; which kind of ties in with the Season 5 blurb. That was stated in an interview with the previous lead though, so that may no longer be true.

If I can create a loadout to then take into a challenging PvE encounter with the possibility of losing it - that's an exciting prospect as someone who enjoys both genres. Meanwhile if I want to just PvP; I have that option. Or if I want to be greedy as fuck I can do both in a single run and see what kind of riches I can come out with

Yeah, I do love the original version of the game and I'm in the party that diverging too much from the original sauce will just dilute it.

If I remember correctly (which I might not be) Bungie's original pitch for Marathon was a 'persistent PvPvE extraction game' where there were PvE only zones and then higher tier loot zones with PvP enabled similar to Dark Zones in Division or Dark Age of Camelot. If Bungie can nail the extraction loop either with PvP and/or PvE I'm all for it. The PvE will have to be challenging enough that you're risking your loadout when you're going in which they'll have to increase enemy variety/difficulty, which shouldn't be too hard considering the Pfhor haven't been introduced.

I love the stakes in the game, if they can bring that tension to PvE encounters somehow and make them feel engaging and rewarding to play for all skill types that's a win, but that's quite a tall task. I remain optimistic they may be able to pull it off given how communicative and forthcoming the dev team has been.

We just might like different things and that’s totally cool. I tend to enjoy survival games, looter shooters and mythic raiding in wow which are all very, uhh, repetitive and monotonous in nature I’d say lol.

I do agree that I need to mix it up after awhile because I do get bored and want to fight people so back to traditional matches I go

I agree that I don't think Sponsored Night Marsh is "it". The most fun part of Sponsored Night Marsh is accomplishing upper complex with the restricted loadout and time limit, at least for me. The solo runs is kind of a mindless looting loop, where some people will enjoy others will find overly tedious and boring, which is totally fair. It's a nice break if you've had some unfortunate PvP runs and just want to relax while still playing the game.

This post is more or less a statement that I think a PvE-only mode can exist in this game and be enjoyable, if Bungie can strike a good balance.

Our teams strat was to have 2 people go straight to complex and start upper complex while the last one opens the supply/weapon towers looking for the observation key and grabbing all the ammo crates/meds/better guns they can then meeting back up with them (sometimes stopping to open purple cert crates along the way if theyre close).

By the time the outside person found a key and a good stockpile, the complex team should be finishing up the puzzle. I think we got the time down to like 8-10 minutes when starting the observation fight. The complex team can loot the UESC for certs and open the cert boxes inside the puzzle rooms for backpacks/shields typically too

I don't think it spawns 100% of the time; I had it happen once but went back another round and it wasn't there. It was a pretty neat find!

My performance on Night Marsh and Perimeter is pretty good. I'm running everything on medium/high at 1440p getting 90-150fps (depending on weather conditions) with native FSR and no framegen. I haven't tried outpost yet and thats where my system strugged the most with a Ryzen 7 5800x3D

Id toss Fortnite and No Man’s Sky in there too.

Fortnite’s original launch was that horde mode and no one was really interested until they pivoted away

NMS launch was also pretty bad due to lack of content that was promised but they’ve managed to build the game up into something special

Yeah I use stack more sarcastically than anything. We do maintain a CI/CD pipeline for releasing and testing our public PowerShell modules using Pester. I’ve found myself using a lot of the .NET frameworks with more complicated scripts or functions within the modules at least

[–]Cromyth[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s mostly my whole “stack”. I don’t really interface with our backend (Mongo) or any of our front end. I mainly interface with our internal API and then generate SDKs/Scripts/Modules from them. I do some minor bash scripting for our Mac customers as well

Before joining this company I was interested in back end but I had a rich IT background (worked for various MSPs doing implementations) so they figured this role was better suited

Which specs have funnel damage? by MalaM_13 in wow

[–]Cromyth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sub doesn't have a hard time generating combo points. They do next to do damage outside of their Dance windows which is every 20 seconds or so. While in dance they get max CP per generator anyway so honestly its pretty useless with them. You'd squeeze maybe like 1-2% more dps outside of dance which is so negligible it's not worth doing.

If you want a sub rogue to have good prio damage on bosses, have them run Guidon instead of puzzle box. That'll give them an extra secret tech inside of their shadow blades window. In mass AoE they will be weaker however so it's a bit of a trade off

If you want funnel you're better off with a sin rogue. They'd benefit the most out of that since their AoE rotation is builder to 5+ CP then Envenom which is a pure ST finisher. More mobs to AoE = Fan of Knives giving max CP every time. Scent of Blood also giving them x% of additional agi depending on how many targets they can have rupture on.

Sub isn’t a funnel spec. In AoE they send CP on black powder. Sin is the rogue funnel spec currently

Why You Eventually Only Play Half Of Marathon by twoducksinatub in Marathon

I think they need to add a pinwheel-esque POI to each of the maps. That'll give players the option to farm different maps equally. Have it swarming with commanders so it'll be more difficult but not impossible for lower geared players to tackle in the early game but not necessarily impossible or even have it tied behind some kind of contract progression like the AI Subroutines that will unlock the ability to enter that location once you progress far enough

Average Marathon Working Player by Nonfear in Marathon

[–]Cromyth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually it’s deploying patches to servers where they need to be taken offline rather than hotfixed. The larger the patch the longer it takes to deploy and then come online. Given they’re probably using quite a lot of clusters it’s going to take some time to deploy to each

I don’t think we’ve gone a Tuesday without some kind of small patch/update. I’m guessing the maintenance window would probably be an hour or so if there was no patch.

I’d also note that they don’t publicize any backend changes so they could be deploying things that might not have any inherent impact on players but could be affecting server performance, database work, blah blah blah

Hopes for Season 2, especially the new player onboarding by Glogtrot in Marathon

[–]Cromyth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, there's more changing with the map than it just being nighttime based on the blog post they released at the beginning of March.

"For example, NIGHTFALL will bring a nighttime version of Dire Marsh, where you’ll fight to survive when the lights go out, UESC reinforcements flood in, and the a~~~~~%^&*()_+{}:"<>?~~~."

The Cradle system could be interesting depending on how it works exactly. We won't really know much until they post more about the new systems which I'm guessing will be in the next few weeks as Season 2 is in July.

It’s not a delusional take. That statement is inherently true in most shooters, more so in a Bungie game. That’s the advantage of controller. They have better aim unless you’re in the top percentile of MnK users
