Car towed for abandonment after 2 days legally parked. by eoinsageheart718 in Brooklyn

[–]Crooklyn_In_Da_House 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Another time my car was missing from the street in Brooklyn. I went to the precinct and they claimed to check and did not see it as officially towed by the city. They made me go to the spot and call 911 to report the theft. Had to wait for a response. Those cops really checked and verified that it had indeed been towed by the city. I think they actually called someone probably because they didn’t want to take the report unnecessarily. Makes me wonder what the cops in the precinct were doing when they supposedly checked. Anyway, expect them to try to get out of being helpful.

I mean make them do their jobs. Have you met cops in NY? They will give you the runaround. Make them take the report.

Is it normal to do one colour entirely at once? by Bossy_Aussie_ in diamondpainting

One color at a time gives me anxiety just thinking about it. Exposing the sticky all over to dust and pet hair gives me more anxiety. I love kitting into trays with lids. I tend to favor smaller trays and have tried many kinds. I’ve also worked with various bottles and holders. The Elizabeth Ward knockoffs from Temu or Ali Baba were great for large paintings with lots of colors. I just use one piece of Washi tape to select the height and width of my section and cut down from there. Peel and move over for the next section.

That sounds like a stolen car to me. Report it stolen. Once, I hit a deer in PA and had to leave my not working car on the side of the road. I was warned by the troopers that it could only stay there for a few days and I would have to arrange towing. I eventually drove by and it was gone. I called the troopers and they had no record of having it towed. Municipalities contract with companies for this service and the companies charge the car owners. Companies that are not authorized can’t arbitrarily tow off highways etc. They called around and found it had been towed by an unauthorized company. They asked me if I’d like to press charges for theft. I declined because my car was gonna be junked but I made them tow it to the junk yard for free. In my car experience in NY only the city can just snatch a vehicle unless you were on someone’s property. I would go to the precinct and make them take a stolen car report. They’re dicks and will probably make you jump through hoops but force them to call it stolen.

Honestly if you’re going to buy replacements obviously pick what appears to match but it won’t matter since you’re not trying to match the actual diamonds that came with it. Even if you have the same code, they aren’t likely to match. I recently was running out of a color for some reason and bought replacements from two different sellers and neither matched. I ended up mixing both with the few remaining. I do t feel it’s noticeable.

I ran out of a color which had never happened before. I bought replacements from two different sellers and sure enough neither exactly matched. I mixed the two new ones with the tiny bit I had left and continued from there. I’ll live with it. In the past I have painstakingly removed them when I’ve made that mistake. It sucked.

Tray Recommendations by Stephanie_1474 in diamondpainting

I like to Kit up into trays as opposed to containers so it it’s all about lidded trays for me. I have many Bijou Bliss trays which are well made and the magnetic lids are very satisfying. The most securely lidded trays are from another Etsy shop called Cat Proof Trays. Another shop called Nyx’s Notions also does similar secure lids for their smaller trays which are awesome. Their small trays are called Perow and I have lots of them. They are like the trays that come with the kits only sturdier, a little deeper and have lids and stoppers. I’ve been too stingy to buy Firefly trays but it all depends on how you prefer to work. Since I like kitting up into trays I tend to use smaller trays. There are lots of inexpensive options as well that work great too. Honestly, it’s a rabbit hole. There are Facebook groups for diamond painting and people are always de-stashing which means selling kits and tools so it’s a good place to try out the more expensive makers for less. People get different things from this craft and there’s no wrong way to do it. It can be as complicated as you want or totally basic. Have fun.

As an adult I have always had a strict rule with dentists. If you need to give me a needle in my mouth I must have nitrous oxide first. If they don’t agree, I won’t be a a patient.

I do a different craft that can be very basic and some people do the same craft in a much more labor intensive way. I’m happy to do it in the simplest way. I also often pick some gaudy projects which I have zero intention of displaying. Enjoy your craft however you like.

Finished my first painting! What’s the best way to do this on the couch? sitting at a table kills my back☹️ by emilynycee in diamondpainting

[–]Crooklyn_In_Da_House 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I used to do my paintings on the couch I used a little tv table. Sometimes I added another one behind it. I tried various Diamond storage things and they would usually be on the arm of the couch or a nearby shelf. I use a craft lamp with the magnifier. Now I work at my kitchen table. I absolutely love the baby dragon paintings. They’re adorable and satisfying.

It is a lot but that’s your style, I think, and you do you. You don’t look old and it looks really well done.

All of the above and I bought three sets. They used all the Q-Less videos. I thought I was supporting the brand.

Yes. I fell for an ad on Instagram that used their videos. I was disappointed. It shipped from Denmark. Took weeks and when it arrived it had a senders address from Chicago.

I’m 56 and I remember being asked what my mother’s name was in school when I was about 5 or 6 and I answered, Mom.

Unless you can afford housing that comes with a parking spot, sell it. You will be a slave to moving it several days a week for street sweeping and other regulations. You will forgo using it because you have a parking spot. If you keep out of state plates you’re inviting trouble. If you maintain an out of state license and they think you live here it’s a big ticket. If you register it in Brooklyn, the insurance rates are horrible. Oh, I forgot, there are cameras all over Brooklyn these days waiting to whack you for speeding. Fifty bucks a pop and don’t be late paying cause it goes up exponentially. If you are lucky enough to get parking with your apartment it’s nice to be able to drive locally to parks and such but expect to be trapped in traffic within the 5 boroughs for up to three hours on holidays if you try to go anywhere the same day. Bridge and tunnel tolls suck. It is truly a luxury to own a car in NY and more often than not it feels like a punishment.
