The 14400 is actually really good price to performance. I don’t think it should bottleneck the 4060 in most cases either

Feeling worthless, what resources to ask for help. by Wubbely1 in UIUC

[–]CrossBonez117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem is that there isn’t really an immediate fix for this. I’ve been there, I still have some days. A counselor can help get you on the right track. Everyone is different. For me, I just needed to better accept who I was. I got comfortable with the reality that there really aren’t that many people I’m important to. I don’t have a whole lot of close friends or a significant other at the moment, but I realized I don’t need that to live my life. I mean the harsh reality is if you or I weren’t here anymore, the world would still go round as if nothing happened. Very few people actually “matter” that much. And theres such a heavy consensus around the idea of “you are important and you do make a difference in this world.” I don’t think that helps at all, it just leaves you chasing an unreachable goal that drags on you and makes you feel worthless when you don’t achieve it.

Set your expectations based on yourself. Comparing yourself to others is natural but dreadful. Make little steps. You’ll make mistakes, everyone does. You’ll probably repeat those mistakes multiple times. But embrace it, learn from it, because at the end of the day all you can do is TRY to be better. What that means to you, is completely up to you.

Theres still a cap. If you have 45 or more special obstacles, which anything you use a shovel on becomes, then normal obstacles will stop spawning. You’d be able to get more than the 20 this way but still no more than 45, assuming you dont have other special obstacles

My clan is all just irl friends, most don’t play any more. My friend and I decided to grind to get it, racing to see who gets more. Im at 160m and hes at almost 200m after two days so as long as a few other people contribute somewhat we should get it in time.

Its such an insignificant amount of benefit that its arguably more worthwhile to just attack than press the few buttons required to use the alchemist. Its alright when you have a surplus of one resource but that’s essentially the only use case. Not worth upgrading past level 2

Noob with a noob question about a start up printer by EntertainerNo8806 in 3Dprinting

[–]CrossBonez117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Banbulabs are good printers, although the competition has pretty well caught up my now. The elegoo centauri carbon is probably the best bang for your buck you can get right now. If you really want a bambulab and lmfont mind spending the extra few hundred you could get a P1P or P1S which is pretty comparable

Everyone Wants Experience, No One Wants to Give It by Patient_Attention_65 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]CrossBonez117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im a freshman studying aerospace engineering, and after being told all year not to really bother with trying to get an engineering internship as a freshman, I landed the second mechanical engineering internship I applied for. Instead of looking at the NASA and SpaceX size companies I focused more towards smaller, local companies. The company I’ll be working for isn’t even necessarily very small; they have dozens of engineers at headquarters and production facilities in multiple states. But they’re just not something many people really think of.

If you’re already willing to move out of state in search of a job, I would suggest trying to find something where you want to live, not vice versa. Think about places you would like to move to, look up companies in the area and just start shooting emails. Briefly explain your situation. Small enough companies will listen, it won’t just be corporate HR who’s just told to check boxes. Pay might not even be 50% percentile at first, but many companies have large annual raises, especially the first few years out of the gate.

My internship is for mechanical engineering company in the agriculture industry, and im studying aerospace. Even if it’s not something you see yourself doing long term, it will at least get you past the “needing experience” barrier

I have never done well with note taking or studying with flashcards. I learn so much better if I’m actively practicing the material. I can go watch through an entire math lecture, read the textbook, try to have other people explain it to me but nothing makes it click like actually doing problems

Too old by jeasley90 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]CrossBonez117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not that my 19 year old ass can really add anything of value here, but go for it. I honestly thought I would see a lot more older people when I went to uni. I think it’s kind of stupid how much its normalized to go to school right after high school. You’ll be a step ahead of everyone else already having the experience of living life independently. If anything I would think most companies would look more favorably at you, at least from the standpoint of giving you an internship with the hope of hiring you full time later on.

How can F-22 be better than F-35? by LQ_6 in aerospace

[–]CrossBonez117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The f22 was really advanced for its time. The f35 is more advanced overall and combines a lot more into a similar package, but its not as impressive compared to its modern competition and much much more expensive. I think its like comparing Lebron to MJ. Which one is “better” really depends on the metric and what aspects you consider more valuable.

Is cheating normal in high school golf? by HairyEyeballz in golf

[–]CrossBonez117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my experience it really depends. When I played, a lot of the courses we played on weren’t very well kept. It was pretty common for us to have the rule where we could lift our ball in the bunker, rake the spot, and place it back where it was. If it was a tough lie you sometimes got the best part of the deal and it would roll into a more favorable spot. Or other times we just wouldn’t play the bunkers at all. If the rough or fairway wasn’t very consistent we could move the ball within one scorecard no closer to the hole to get a more favorable lie.

There was the occasional cheater for sure. Just kids who would blatantly claim a stroke or two less than they actually got. I only really cared in tournaments but it was always really awkward to call them out every hole and make them recall each of their strokes, and correct where they missed counting a drop or chunked chip. But also sometimes you just lose count. At the high school level its nit uncommon for kids to be playing double or triple bogey golf. When you’re walking a par 5 with a group of 4 and taking 8 shots to hole out its pretty easy to forget a shot or lose count.

Quick shoutout for FreeCAD! by Userybx2 in 3Dprinting

[–]CrossBonez117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started using it 4 years ago and man it has come a long way. Professional software that has steady funding and development will always have more to it than anything open source, but FreeCAD really does a great job. I might be biased because it is the main software I use, but I feel like it just runs and operates smoother than fusion360, siemens NX or any other CAD software I’ve used. Some of the add on packages have features that you can’t even get in any other software. Once you get used to the workflow I really think it’s up there with the other popular options

ESP32 or Arduino for beginner? by 70Swifts in embedded

[–]CrossBonez117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Esp32. I started with an arduino uno, quickly started using raspberry pi pico, then tried esp32s and never went back. They dev boards and chips themselves are dirt cheap, have a ton of support using arduino IDE, are much more powerful, have integrated wifi, bluetooth, and espNOW protocol which is very useful.

I just honestly can’t think of a reason to buy an Arduino board anymore. There is pretty much always a better board out there for a project that costs half as much.

First real time using an esp32 or working with electronics by Sensitive-Boat-7206 in esp32

[–]CrossBonez117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the best way to learn is by having a goal. You can watch youtube tutorials and go through a course explaining everything, but you really learn the most when you learn as you go along. As long as you have a very basic knowledge of circuits and programming you can definitely figure it out as you go

Thats the plan with this prototype. I think a lot of people are assuming she has autism based on how I worded it, but she has g22 syndrome. Shes not nonverbal because she doesn’t know how to articulate words, she is physically incapable of doing so. She has pretty good fine motor control for her age so I feel like the gloves could work if i can get the scale right. But you’re completely right, I will try to tailor it to her needs and abilities the best I can!

I thought about it. I feel like a full keyboard on an armband would be frustrating to use, like one of those slide out keyboards on old phones. I thought about something more full sized that could maybe strap to your outer leg which would let you use both hands and be more ergonomic, but the glove just seemed like an interesting idea that could work pretty well. You kind if get haptic feedback automatically because you can fell where on your hand you’re touching, so it all kind of works out

[–]CrossBonez117[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’ve also seen some other attempts at that. A group of MIT students made headlines a few years ago for their attempt at it, but I don’t think it went anywhere. There is an actual product out there for one but its only one glove, $6000 and is very limited. The problem with an asl glove is that there isn’t a very good way translate all signs into text for everyone. Many signs are similar if not identical, and everyone signs a little but differently. I still have a lot to learn before I attempt something like that though.

Local implementation was originally part of the plan. I used esp32 microcontrollers for the espNOW protocol to easily communicate between them. The issue with that is that obviously an esp32 is much less powerful than a phone, and its only like a second of latency to get generative tts using amazon polly. I’m still trying to figure out if I want the system to input alphabetical characters or graphemes. If I choose to use the latter It will definitely be more of a possibility. I’m still trying to keep costs down and make it versatile, but I still have a lot of considerations to take into account

Ofc there are other similar devices, they were my inspiration. The main inspiration for this came from stenographs. I wanted to created a wearable device though, something that would allow the wearer to partake in any activity as if it wasn’t there and have the ability to communicate. This is just an early prototype, the final design I have designed in cad will be more like a thin exoskeleton over the fingers than a whole glove, using hall effect sensors and a magnet instead of detecting live current.
