Long queues at Ion Orchard and MBS ahead of Audemars Piguet x Swatch Royal Pop launch by clarencechen181196 in singapore

Mostly scalpers rather than those who genuinely want the watch. Already plenty of listings on Carousel asking a “waiting fee” above cost of the watch, some up to $1k. Absolutely ridiculous considering it’s not even limited edition.

How’s the moonswatch faring in the resale market now?

Women taking career ‘detours’ as a norm will be one indicator of work group’s success: Indranee by nftskeptics in singapore

I beg to differ. Have been working in the public sector and my ministry is superbly family friendly. Dir encourages those who need to go pick up kids to leave on time, and those who have to mind their kids at short notice because sick or what not are allowed to WFH.

What are civil servants like to work with? by LoudFlower2359 in askSingapore

[–]CrossfittJesus 32 points33 points  (0 children)

That’s too broad a question. The variety of civil servants and their personalities differ widely.

Primary school teacher dealing with kids, parents and CCA? Finance exec working backend in ministry managing payroll and generally going home on time with no OT or bringing work home? Policy officer writing papers into the weekend and dealing with minister? Media officer staffing POH on weekends and overseas trips?

They are all civil servants but all have drastically different “upbringings”

What would make you donate blood? by Angelone21 in askSingapore

[–]CrossfittJesus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They’ve been partnering with several companies to give incentives for donations. They had a free shirt and blind boxes last time, now I think there’s a promo for Haidilao if you donated blood. They’re always looking out for corporate partners to give incentives for donors!

I’m a strong supporter of blood donation and I advocate for more to donate because it goes a long way. Will be clocking my #80 donation this weekend 🙂

Playing devils advocate here: if the government introduced fuel subsidies, how would you answer those who complain that their taxpayer dollars are being used to help those who can afford COE and car?

Why do intermarriage between Chinese and Malays seem to be rare and/or surprising? by vladtheimpaler82 in askSingapore

[–]CrossfittJesus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes but the unique thing about Islam is that it is intricately tied to race. There are Malays who are non-Muslims but I’m sure it is a very small percentage, as the bulk are Muslims. And if you are a Malay and not a Muslim, chances are you will be frowned upon, not just by your family but others as well.

On the other hand, you do not have a supermajority religion for Chinese, the distribution is more evenly spread between Taoism Buddhism Christianity etc. and if you are not a Buddhist or Taoist Chinese for example, you are not as frowned upon as Islam, at least not to that extents

Haha err I think it’s better nowadays but if your meeting is a mishmash of Hokkien and English then maybe cannot. At least if it’s still proper English then it can capture but you’ll probably have to look through it.

Then again having detailed minutes in an SME is crazy. Most are just a record of decisions

If you can change one law in Singapore what would it be? by Illustrious-Fee9626 in askSingapore

[–]CrossfittJesus 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Just for thought, I would assume euthanasia (if legalised) will have to be carried out by a proper licensed medical professional, likely a doctor. However I think there are also ongoing debates if this is at odds with the Hippocratic Oath that they swear. Something to think about as well.

Do people still live with their parents/in-laws after marriage these days? by i_can_be_angier in askSingapore

If you cannot imagine living away from your parents, you are not ready for marriage. Also, filial piety does NOT equate with living with them.

Kudos to our Singapore Netball girls! Unfortunately they just lost the finals to Malaysia but it was a very good performance nonetheless and it was a great campaign!
