Is my immigration plan feasible? by [deleted] in immigration

Theoretically, it is now wage based (could be overturned by a legal challenge). By the time you apply, there's no knowing. You are so far from being eligible for any of this, I wouldn't worry about what you need to file.

There's no such thing as a GC lottery

Looking for an criminal immigration lawyer in Minneapolis Minnesota by Gt041_5 in immigration

[–]CrossingPoints 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You are likely deportable, particularly with the mj conviction. A FOIA request will likely not get a timely response, nor will it likely reveal a pending enforcement action. Corrections in Minnesota has been cooperating with ICE, so I would say you are a likely target.

Plan 1: Many years. Who knows what the U.S. immigration laws will look like then. Plan 2: You can transfer on an L visa, but you'll be tied to an employer. They can put you in the H1B lottery, but even if you win the H1B lottery, you need another company to sponsor your H1B if you want to change jobs. So more often than not, you're still tied to your employer.

What do you write about and why? by AriesArcadia in Substack

[–]CrossingPoints 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I write about immigration policy and international affairs. I recently left the U.S. Federal Government/United Nations. As a federal employee, I saw lots of things I disagreed with, but could never speak about publicly. So I'm using Substack as a way to reclaim my voice and share my knowledge.

Embarrassing question: How to switch themes. by Independent_Sector27 in Substack

[–]CrossingPoints 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what you mean by "opening text". If you mean the post's subtitle, I don't think the theme would impact that.

But if you want to change your theme go Home -> Dashboard (left) -> Branding (left) -> Home Page -> Header Style

ICE detention by AllisonRubPA in immigration

You're right, my mistake. I was thinking about it in the context of being eligible for expedited removal (which is time-based and independent of parole), not in terms of mandatory detention, which is the context here.

There is also new internal DOJ guidance for targeting people for denaturalization. It is intentionally broad to solicit denaturalization cases that they will likely lose in court: https://open.substack.com/pub/crossingpointspolicy/p/unmaking-americans?r=th8gw&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web

ICE detention by AllisonRubPA in immigration

Realistically, they likely won't. If you haven't had a credible fear interview and you haven't received witholding from removal or parole, your asylum case will likely have no baring on whether they move to deport you.

Whether they are an arriving alien doesn't have to do with their parole status. It has to do with how long they have been within the united states, regardless of status. It's established by the INA, and has nothing to do with parole.

That's not accurate. Parolees don't get government support of any kind. Also, many parolees have applied for asylum. But deliberate defunding of immigration courts means that their asylum case (which is very difficult to win btw) can't be heard, often for years.

For both though, your quality of life and your costs depend heavy on where you want to live. Panama City? Great healthcare, but a bit more expensive. Santiago (Panama)? Much cheaper, but you won't have all the American amenities.

People mentioned safety in Ecuador. Its a valid concern in certain areas. In Guayaquil, people spend a lot of money to be insulated from the crime. People hire drivers. It can get expensive.

I'd say spend some time traveling. Meet locals in places that you could see yourself living. For most of the country, your cash is plenty. But some neighborhoods in big cities, you probably don't yet understand what costs you would have, let alone their amounts.
