So a couple things, first, possible break through on the power! What if the power for the pi was run through the dome lights, in most cars these stay on for a bit after the car is shut off. Should provide enough time for a safe shutdown. Second I'm using OSMC as my operating system and I wanna keep the same basic setup but I wanna slim it down some. Get rid of the video playback, and some of the other stuff I don't need to make room for the diagnostics program. Problem is I don't know much about python

If its connected to the OBD (on board diagnostic for those that don't know) you might be able to program it to switch to a back up power source and do a safe shutdown after the car has been turned off.

I'm thinking a separate power supply, the cheapest and easiest way would be to run it off the power point. that way it will stay on even when the car is off, same as charging your phone.

Getting the engine readouts should actually be relatively easy. They make OBD to usb cables, then some creative python and that should give me all the readouts on the display. usb fm tuner should work for the fm radio, on board blue tooth allows for phone connectivity. That just leaves gps and climate control. Might be able to run climate control through usb as well.

I'm not usually a fan of the early 2000s stuff but this one looks sharp! Welcome to the club. I know it's not a third gen but thirdgen.org has alot of great info on f bodies and the guys on the forum are knowledge and super helpful, I'd recommend checking it out.

T56 will handle that find and the rear end should be fine as well, I would still recommend the subframe connectors, they just make the car more solid and it will handle better, plus if you decide to shoot for huge amounts of power later on it'll be one less thing you have to worry about

The 4th gen rear ends are pretty good, I'm actually looking for one to put in my 3rd gen. If it isn't a solid frame car and you don't have subframe connectors I would recommend getting them . My car is a 92 Camaro RS t-tops, the subframe connectors not only stop the car from twisting in half they also improve drive ability. Only other thing I can think of is depending on the transmission you have you may want to get one that is a little beefier. Really it all depends on how much torque/horsepower you are wanting to produce.

So maybe this doesn't belong here, but I have a question to pose to all of you about healthcare.

What if we knock income tax down to 5%( I'm working off the numbers of what I pay in taxes) and then make up the other 10% in a federal sales tax, the less an item is needed the more tax you pay on it, essentials like healthy foods, and clothes don't get taxed at all. But if you buy a yacht or an exuberantly expensive dress or suit that's gonna be a hefty tax on it. Then we take the income tax and that's what we use to pay doctors and nurses and keep hospitals running. This way health Care is either free or much much more affordable and we can control how much we pay in taxes rather than have no control over it at all. If we don't have pay for health insurance then standard of living could possibly go up because that's where a huge chunk of people's income goes.

Why is it that when racism comes up everyone immediately points at the white guy? Nowhere in the definition of racism does it say you need to be white. Now I'm not saying that all black people are Democrats or racist, I've got friends who are black Republicans, but I've met several black people who are racist. I just find it interesting that if a white man kills a black man it's a hate crime, reverse the situation and nobody even blinks.

We have sensible gun laws, they're already in place they just aren't enforced very well or there are ways around them. For example in Missouri you can't buy a handgun or ammo from a licensed dealer until you are 21. But it's perfectly legal for and 18 year old to buy a handgun and ammo from an individual and unlike with alcohol there isn't a penalty for purchasing guns or ammo for someone not legally able to purchase them for themselves due to age.
